.....hey taterfriend, the amount of money that parents spend is alot and no doubt, every year somebody wants to equate the what ifs of that spending, ie, could they have saved that money and used it to pay for collge.

TB is an awesome experience and I would not trade the $ I spent for anything at all.

For the fishman to watch his DDs grow up on the fields have been a blessing from God. I'm not kidding with that statement!

My folks used to say "just wait until you have kids and you'll see why parents do what we do".........

they were right, and I KNOW that one day you and all of the other tatertots will understand and look back at how cool things were back in the day.

    Peace!

...cool stikpal, I listen to you because you try to make sense without slingin snot and thats what TBR needs.

So your opinion is that the talent level is watered down by virtue of too many teams....and I agree, but what I'm saying is when the TB teams that are considered "top level" teams go to the Hot Times or the Cardinal Classic or Col. , or Fla. ............those teams are placed on the same fields so that the college coaches can weigh out their opinion based on the competition.

On the big dog field, a kid can crush the ball and go 0-3 and get props from the college coach.

On the lower level field a kid can go 1-4, hit the ball hard and get the same props.

SO, my point is even if there is a talent base that is is being devided, theses kids can still rock and need to be appreciated and recruited where ever they play.

welcome lisamill39 to this board rocks softball forum.

now, as always, complaining on this forum just doesnt change things a bit. if you have legitiment complaints, take them directly to the tournament director, ken bailey, and you can find his email address on the sc bandits web site......i met ken and his wife many years ago, great people and i dont know of anyone who has emailed him that he hasnt replied back to.

Marlin as always, you speak words of wisdom.
I am in 100% agreement. People spend 1000's of dollars a year going on family vacations to Disneyworld, etc... over the past 10 years we have spent the same money but got to go to great places, watch our DD and her friends play softball, hang out with the other families and form life long friendships. Not to mention the fine people we have met along the way. Great family fun.
To write about how much fun We have had would read like a novel - worth EVERY penny! I truly feel blessed to have been a part of it. Because of the time we have spent together, our family is closer and we will have the memories to share of it forever.
As with everything in life, it's all about perspective.

We were all there for our kids and we have been to a Lot of tournaments and this is the ONLY time I have ever felt compelled to air my complaints publicly!!!! The ladies at the gate were extremely nice and I talked to them all week end and they agreed that everyones complaints were valid and it was out of their control. They also told me they received only the concessions and NOTHING from the gate, but now it says they did receive part of the gate. That explains why they were there from till the gates closed. One last note, we had umpires who would not let us put in a courtesy runner for the pitcher or catcher unless there were 2 outs!!!!! and in our last game field umpire closed his eyes between pitches!!! I won't go any farther on that topic, but that shows what kind of effort was put into this Showcase Tournament.....

My DD has learned a lot from softball about what people do, and when I complained about it I was a nut case Dad, with a kid who doesn't have it, and all she did was work her butt off and hit every pitcher that ever came her way. If she didn't get them the first time she got them the next time around, but she did it.

It's not a bad thing to see at what degree others will go to bend the rules to gain favor and then complain. I can point to that with my DD watching and tell her why it's wrong to do that. Kids are very visual and without defining bad examples they can not understand the good ones.

It is what it is, and like Lblues said earlier, if you're really that unhappy, don't go. Do like we did and take a nice vacation to the beach.

I don't regret it either and am thankful I was in it when it was still more about the players than the adults.

Played the Hot Times Classic every year for 6-7 years. After seeing the decline skipped it the last 2 years. Looks like a wise decision on our part.
