The best news my son has given me during the first half of the season came last night. He came in from practice and told me he had been selected to be in the National Honor Society... ..Thank goodness he took after his mom!

    That's Awesome

When we put that beside the sports it will be hard to beat National Honor Society. Great job.

    What next?

My son is to the point where he has to decide where he is going to school after his 2 years at junior college. He has been told by one school that they have a spot for him to come right in and start at his position and they really like him. It sounds like a no-brainer but he is looking deep inside himself to try to find out what kind of career he wants after baseball. That is a hard call for a 19 year old. He says that he has no idea for sure what he wants to do. He likes being outside alot so he is looking at Environmental Science as an option. They have that where he has been offered. I know we had a couple of people on TBR that do that kind of work. What are your thoughts on the different kinds of jobs he could do with that kind of degree?

I am proud that he is thinking hard on his decision. I think this is the week that the signing period opens again so we are pressed for time now. Even though it is stressful it is a little fun.

    Environmental Science

If your son is interested in environmental science this field is really growing. A few examples:
Water - Over the next 50 years you will see more disagreements in the world - and in the different regions here in the U.S. - over water rights. (May start to be almost as high a priority as energy resources.) Even the relatively small duration drought here in the Carolinas and in the southeast in general has started large court battles between states and even cities in the same state. How to properly protect and manage water resources will be a booming field. New clean technologies for water reusage are growing rapidly.
Air - Air quality and how it relates to human health are areas where more research and start-up companies are starting to come on line now as well - and this area will continue to grow in the coming decades. A good example is the increasing rates of childhood asthma. These increases are starting to be understood as at least partially related to air quality concerns over the rise in very small nano-particles in our air that pass directly into the respiratory tract (i.e. our nasal passages and throats do not remove them). The sources of these particles and how to regulate them are only beginning to be studied.
Find a good school, study hard and you will have many options when you graduate.
    Hope this helps...

    Andrew Blackwell

He is a class act. He played on our legion team the last 2 years. He had some big hits for us over that time. His parents are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. He has signed with Western Carolina. I even saw that WCU had a write-up about his game on their web site.

    Forgot what it's about

Man, some dad I am. Well the BA is going down, but the OB is up. Mine has been locked in the HBP and walks deal the last few games. Although, the overall picture is good. Not much to say but he is getting on. And that is half the battle. :xyxthumbs:
