RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Wolfpack baseball team will play the USA 18-and-under National team Wednesday in a scrimmage at Doak Field at Dail Park. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m., and admission is free of charge.
Earlier Wednesday, the baseball and softball teams will join forces for a 4:30 p.m. fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. That will take place at 4:30 p.m. at Amedeo's Restaurant on Western Boulevard. The baseball team will be there from 4:30 until about 5:15, when they will depart for Doak Field at Dail Park and the scrimmage with the USA 18-U team.
The softball team will be on hand from 6 to 8 p.m., along with other special guests.
"Wednesday will be a really big day for our team," head baseball coach Elliott Avent said. "The event in the afternoon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society speaks for itself. That's such an important cause and we're very happy and honored to join with the softball team to be a part of that.
"The baseball game against the USA team is something new for us, a formal scrimmage in the fall, and we're excited. We start fall practice this week, and the scrimmage is kind of the kick-off for that. The 18-U team is a very talented club and will be a challenge for our team. It will be a good measuring stick for us as we start fall practice."
The Wolfpack returns a strong nucleus from 2011's NCAA regional squad, plus a much-heralded recruiting class. Five everyday starters are back from last year's lineup, plus five pitchers who logged at least 40 innings in the spring.
The USA 18-U team features 21 of the top players in the country aged 18 and under. The 18-U team is will play in the 2011 Junior AAA/18U Pan Am Championships, which run from Nov. 18-27 in Cartagena, Colombia. Wednesday's scrimmage will be part of the 18-U team's training period, which will run from Sept. 13-17, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.
The fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is set for 4:30 until 8 p.m. at Amedeo's, located at 3905 Western Boulevard. Players from the baseball and softball teams and other special Wolfpack athletic guests will be there to meet fans and sign autographs.

Fans can donate to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for a chance to win one-of-a-kind NC State sports memorabilia. The first 25 people in attendance will receive a door prize plus a ticket good for the event's prize drawings. Tickets will be on sale to the public for $1 apiece.

Fans can also team up with the Wolfpack on the "Home Run Heroes" and walk in the "Light the Night Walk" in downtown Raleigh on Oct. 15. For more information about the event and joining the Wolfpack team, click here.
For those who dine at Amedeo's during Wednesday's fundraiser, 15 percent of their bill will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

    good

    thanks for the game review.
On paper, NCSU looks very good for 2012.

I saw on another forum where S. Carolina and NCSU will play in Shelby in 2013.
