    baseball field question.

This question has to do with all public facilities, high school, middle school and parks. If the fields are unoccupied on the weekends or week nights why shouldn't a tax payer be able to used them. Baseball fields are scarce and everytime you want to use one there is someone who says you can't use my field. Some rec league coach or travel team coach says this is my field and you can't use it. I thought tax players had the right to use these fields. If i am wrong please give me the correct rule.

Not me.......I showed up at the end of practice and the coach ran me off. I've been asking for a written policy since Monday, but nobody can seem to put their hands on it. :77321_bs: Coach says he is just following principal's orders.

As far a the legalities goTo use the school fields all you have to do is take out a liability insurance policy of 1 million dollars which will cost about $200. This is to keep the school from being held liable if someone gets hurt. This is for teams. As for unorganized teams i.e. some kids just going there to play this has always been fine. Kids have went to school grounds to playball and practice for decades. I don't know the legalities on this but as stated if you pay taxes you should be able to use the facilities YOU are paying for

Typical high school policies. Most teachers are more intrested in making a name for themselves and showing they are in charge than they are what is good for the kids

I think the only requirement you should have for people using the field is some kind of fungo-competence license. I hate to see an infield on a Monday morning that looks like the tee box of a 140-yard par three because someone was driving ground balls hard into the ground all weekend.

    how I would respond

This is how I would respond - ASK! If I didn't get an answer from the Coach, then I would set up a meeting with the Principal. No answer from the Principal, ask the Superintendent.

I know what your answer is going to be (if you already haven't been told) - when parents/students are on school grounds without a representative from the school out there with them, the school is liable if someone gets hurt.

So (and I'm sure you've done this) ASK one of the coaches if they won't mind coming out on a Saturday (because they can't on Sundays due to state regulations) for a couple hours. If they all refuse to, then you might seek council with the Principal, maybe ASK what you can do... things like that.

Your other option is to do nothing and just complain on here like you have already. If you want to bash your high school and your baseball program & coaches for something, at least ASK some questions first. Then maybe you can blame the coaches and school system for your son & his teammates short-comings as baseball players.
