Hudson Middle School baseball coach-Paul Menegay

    Hello,

I read this forum quite a bit, I just do not post often. I would like to ask you guys to be in prayer for Hudson Middle School baseball coach Paul Menegay. He has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Coach Menegay is an amazing man. At 81 years old he continues to teach 6th grade and coach baseball and softball here at Hudson Middle. He has also won over 500 basketball games in his career. Winning many of the games in Ohio, but he had quite a few victories while coaching at Granite Middle and some here at Hudson. I am proud to say I have played for and coached with this man. There is not a finer example of what coaches should be. Please pray for this healing of this wonderful teacher and coach. Thank you.

I am so sorry to hear about this. We will absolutely keep him in our prayers. He has touched the lives of so many children here in Caldwell county, both in the classroom and in sports. I have never heard an ill word spoken about this man, and being a coach for middle school, that speaks volumes.

Coach Menegay is a very special man. He worked for over 30 years at another job and went to school at night to get his teaching degree. He started his teaching career well after most people have retired from work. Before moving to N.C. he had a stellar career as a Baseball player and coach and also a basketball coach in Ohio. He was a great baseball player who gave up a Major League chance for his family. He played against Thurman Munson while he was still in the Minor League. He coached at the Semi-pro level for many years in Ohio and is still very well known in the Canton, Ohio area. After moving to Caldwell county he helped coach the Hickory Rebels and actually had to play right field one game and younger players were amazed that he could still hit and play baseball. I hired him to coach baseball and basketball at Granite Falls Middle school where he coached for many years. He retired and had hip replacement and started teaching again at Hudson Middle School where he also coached basketball, softball, and baseball. He touched literally thousands of lives of young men and women during his wonderful career. God can still work miracles and if any Man ever deserved one, coach Menagay does. His story is one that needs to be told all over N.C.

My father is right, Coach Menegay inspired many young men, includng myself. I pray that God will touch his body and heal him. During my first year as head football coach I had a really tough year and he kept on encouraging me everyday and made sure I kept a positive attitude. He was always encouraging and stayed positive in everything he did. He is truly everything a model coach is.
