Huntersville was disqualified from the postseason Saturday afternoon for not having enough players to field a team.

No word yet on Shelby's first-round opponent, if any, but Post 82 will not be playing at all tonight.

    More later...

At this rate the playoffs will be over pretty soon. How many teams will survive a disqualification before the Championship series seems to be the biggest question.

Shelby will host Burke County Sunday night in the first of a best-of-five series.

Can't field anough players to participate in the playoffs? I have a hard time even understanding this. I do know that legion baseball in our area of the state is very unpredictable and only 2 teams (Asheville and Henderson County) from Asheville to the TN and GA borders, a huge area. As I will say as I said last year, they could have had more.

Problems there stem from the issue of showcase vs. legion, which we've beaten to death on this board. When forced to choose, the players chose the showcase route. Too bad, because with players from Hopewell, North Meck, and Vance, this team could have competed with the likes of Pineville. Instead, they struggled to get 9 players at a game, and most were JV players.

I guess they figured they were going to play 3 games with no chance on winning , so might as well head off on vacation...

We never planned anything until we knew baseball was over for the summer.
