    Diatribe

I believe it looks more like a Ted Kaczynski editorial that was sent to the TV stations many, many years ago.

Unibomber has softened and turned into the UniBaller.:loveit:

    TR, could you be TK?

I seriously doubt Hannah Montana got her gig because of who her dad is.

It's not the coverage by the media, etc. that gets a coach's attention.
It is the perserverance of the player in contacting the coach, playing in college showcases and doing the work it takes to stay on top of her game.

I assume this is a general topic and not softball specific. The biggest complaint that most softballers have is there is little to no coverage of their sport....so hype is not a factor.

That's your opinion, but it certainly doesn't make it factual. There are always players that improve at the next level where another player regresses. A coach must project how they believe that player will perform. There is certainly no crystal ball

There are so many ways that it could take a page to list them. But our recruiting thread would be a good start.

One's opinion. Another person may think otherwise. Not factual.

    Exploitation? Wow!...strong word

Sorry...you lost any credibility about your thread after that. To suggest that a college coach (a person that gets paid to observe talent and develop the players) could be influenced by a parent or newspaper article is almost laughable.

That's a big leap going from Rap "drugs, sex, kill" to a college coach believing something that is said or written about a player to a point that they can not make their own evaluations.

Since this is not something that can be tracked or measured. The 50% figure is simply one's opinion. An opinion that I thoroughly reject.

I'm not sure what your real point is? Was it a comment about life? Yep, it can sometimes stink! and is rarely fair. But the neat thing about sports; it prepares you how to handle the stinky times and when life is just not fair.

It's kind of tough to take a shot at a sport and the hype, when it is a sport striving to get media attention in any form.

Listen, this was an interesting thread. But it seemed more of a complaint than a question

I think many of these people want to stir up as much grap as they can and watch all the true softball fans go for it. Also, many are on the board to cause as much mal content as possible. Guys thanks for all U try to do for softball and the young ladies that play the game.

I guess I will never understand the concept of :stirthepot: These are not paid professionals playing this game. They are young ladies playing. For many of them, this may be the last time they can be a part of a team. This may be the last time they will see their names in print. This may be the last time their parents can read something their daughter accomplished and to be so proud that they sent the link to her grandparents in Minnesota.

Sports are a reflection of life: The good, the bad and the ugly. I choose to look at the good, improve on the bad and dismiss the ugly.

Of the many things I learned through sports, this I know is true. You never hear winners whine and complain about some obstacle in their path.

Yes-I am saying that media attention plays a miniscule or non-existent part in the recruiting process.
