Hype Or Talent ???

What college coaches go by

By now everyone here knows me....

I am the head coach at UNC Pembroke.

Speaking only for myself, but generalizing for others,....I don't have time to read the newspaper during the high school season and don't give two craps about what the papers are writing about anyways!!!!! We ALL go and evaluate the prospective student-athletes based on what we have seen and what we have heard from other coaches we consider solid informants.

Kids send us stuff and that helps in the initial organization of our recruiting lists...

But does anyone really think that college coaches base who we recruit on what a newspaper prints? Or who you all are talking about on this board? Come on...I know we're not all rocket scientists...but give us some credit for knowing what we do and having a little common sense to do our jobs right!!!!!!!!

I think you will see that we have all levels of softball players and lovingly so, it comes with their parents/coaches/grandparents, who will post here.


Keep up the great work at UNC-P and informing our new and some Old viewers on the www. We need all the help we can get and sincerely appreciated!

Ok my bad...he was famous, for like a year or two, 17 years ago...I see you'll always be right, silly me.

 

As you go up the ladder its never the players skills that keep them from making a team or being recruited or starting. Its always the coach or politics or the media or not enough exposure or other parents or other teams coaches or teachers or the principal or no supporting talent on my team, but NEVER the player. Funny how that works.

 

Softball4ever- He was referring to other coaches that he has learned to respect their opinions....not from some parent or what he has read.

If one was seeking a 2nd opinion on an operation, it would be understandable that a doctor may seek counsel from another physician. But he certainly won't be asking a parent for their advice (unless they happened to stay at a Holiday Inn Express)
