I'd like to see the top 2 teams from the conference go to the playoffs, regardless of what happens in their conference tournament. If someone other than the top 2 wins the tourney let those guys play their way in through a wild card type system. Over the years there have been a lot of good teams eliminated from the playoffs because they stumped their toe in the tourney and somebody else played over their heads. Just my .02.

One more thing. I'm for wood as well, but only if college rules do the same. I think there is more chance for injury at the college level. Doesn't make sense to use wood in high school then go back to metal in college.

Good question. They don't start the season until the 2nd week of March. And the regular season ends about May 20. School is out & the kids are still playing the State Finals in June.

The state is divided into 64 districts...all one class. That's right, just one class. 16 Regions....16 Region winners go to the single eliminatin tournament. Talk about a baseball feast...

I'll say again: conference games have little meaning for 2/3rds if the teams in NC. They have no shot at being one of the 2 or 3 making the State Playoffs. For the upper 1/3rd, there would be less meaning, I agree. But I've experienced both & far & away prefer the Ky method (except for the one class thing. I believe there should at least be 2).

EastOfRaleigh, Kentucky does classify football...not basketball or baseball.

In baseball, yes small schools do shine occasionally...but not frequently. The Lexington & Louisville schools are always the teams to beat.

However I moved here from a small town of 7000/county of 15,000. The high school is 2A in football...don't know the exact enrollment. But they have a fab coach who works the program 12 months. Harrison County has won (I think) 4 state baseball titles in last 20 years. They are an annual fixture inthe State Sweet 16.

For the record: I like NC's football playoff/conference arrangements much better. And the level of play in NC in all sports is far away superior...not even close. I mean, my son went head up 5 times with Chris Paul. And college players come to NC to play wood bat summer ball. I love this state...

Just to note that Ky. has about 275 schools. NC has about 360. This year about 2/3 will make the baseball playoffs. While that's a lot of schools(about 256), it's not 100% in post season. If you allow 2/3 to play post season, then why not just let them all in?

    too many

256 of 350 schools is too many. it cheapens the regular season.

Souther, if 2/3 is accurate, then my point is moot. But I have to question that. Our conference only 2 of 7 made playoffs last season.

If 2/3 is accurate for baseball, then NC's system wins hands down. I tip my hat & crawl back to the hills
