I bet the pitchers for Preps 17's loved seeing the name "D. Ackley" in the lineup. Seeing "W. Hobson" wasn't too bad either. It'd be awesome to see them place in only their second tournament.

    Lights Out at NC State!

While driving home from Elon after watching my son play with the Dirtbags I got a very interested call from a friend of mine who's son plays for the Cubs. During their game at Doak he said he witnessed a very unusual sight. It seems a young boy was playing around the light pole on the third base side of the stands at Doak during the game. He said the youngster unscrewed two bolts out of the base of the light pole where it inserts into the concrete base. Suddenly the entire bank of lights crashed into the parking lot right behind the stands on the third base side of Doak! No one was in the parking lot and thank goodness it did not fall onto the field. Thank god no one was hurt.

That's one of the craziest things I ever heard. Thank God no one was hurt. But it sure opens a "can of worms"

I saw the pole fall. Very scary sight. It's going to be interesting to see how those nuts happened to be loose on the anchor bolts. The kid said one was already gone when he started playing around the pole. They will have to replace the concrete base before erecting another light tower.

I too saw the lightpole fall. Could not believe what I witnessed. It was only by the grace of God that no one was killed. The incident led to another bizarre one when the final game was cancelled due to darkness with the Cubs down two with the tying runs on second and third and one out. Both coaches had been told there would be no continuation but it was a terrible way for a game to end. The half inning should have been finished.
As for the Cubs, they were not the same team as last fall. Most of the faces were the same but they did not seem to have the same fire as last year. Most of the kids have signed and probably were taking it easy this summer. Can't say I blame them.
Cubs did not hit well all summer. But I did see BJ Dail hit a 400 ft homer on Saturday.
