What makes the state championships exciting to me is the unknown factor. If the top teams from the west and east played each other throughout the year in non conf games would the state finals be as exciting? I don't think so. To me the anticipation of seeing how they are going to actually match up on the field is a big part of the excitement of the weekend. We can say this conference is the best or this area is the best but we really don't know from year to year. None of these teams have played each other this year in any of the classifications. Im not sure if any have common opponents. I dont think they do. It reminds me of the days in MLB where the WS was so exciting because it was NL vs AL. I think the WS has lost some of its luster with the inception of IL Play. What do you guys think?

I see your point, and agree in some ways, but respectfully disagree in some.
I see what your saying it lost some of it's luster, but I look forward to IL play, because I never get to see the Braves play the R/Wsox, or Cubs, etc. etc. Only in IL play.
But I also agree that IL play somewhat shortens the excitement of the WS. But not enough to make people not watch, or take eyes off the screen.

So IMHO, i think IL play is still a good idea.

Interleague play is really exciting for cities like New York and Chicago and LA who get to see the mets vs yankees and cubs vs white sox and dodgers vs angels. The people interleague play stinks for are the fans of.....the royals, who get to watch their team play...the nationals.

I like Impact's Pre-Season Tournament, but as a rule, I like it best when west plays west and east plays east until the Championship. I would miss Diesel's sandbaggin' :sport-smiley-12:
