I agree, unjustly calling kids greedy while not being able to justify it is very dramatical!

On another note, what happened with Maybin? I thought he and the Tigers were pretty darn close and then the Tigers just pulled their offer. Weird! They will absolutely lose their rights to him as he has signed with Southern.

Actually, the Tigers pulled their last two offers back to their initial offer.....no wonder this club has difficulty in signing their players amd their club is consistently near the bottom. If you put your chips on the table, you can't pull them back off, if your going to stay in the game.

The crazy thing is they knew what they were getting with Maybin. Same with the D-Backs when they drafted Upton. These kids hold all the chips because they are high schoolers and can go to college and you lose your first pick and it hurts your farm system. They knew it when they drafted them and should have been more willing to work with them.

Again, I think MLB should go to a slotted draft like the NBA does. Set pay amounts for each position and then just raise them a little every year. Until then, these teams know what they are getting into when they draft a high school player. That is why Maybin dropped to 10th in the first place. I feel no pity for the Tigers.

These topics blow me away. I am a blue collar guy, that has worked with his hands for the last 30 years. I can tell you how hard it is to just make a few thousand dollars and manage to hang on to some of it.
If I understand this correctly, this kid is snubbing 4.5 MILLION DOLLARS to gain an extra 900 thousand. It seems uncle sam is going to take 400 of that 900, so really we are talking about an extra 500 k. It seems to me if he accepted the 4.5 million and got it to Payne Webber fast enough, it would earn him that extra 500k before he ever got out of A ball.
I have seen him play about 5 different times, the last time in Fort Myers when Impact defeated them in the quarter finals. The game ended with Addison Johnson striking him out and Upton arguing every pitch with the umpire. He had 1 good hit that night, mis- played 3 balls at short, walked off and on the field, hustle wasn't in his make up.
Besides injury the biggest risk he would run by playing at Louisburg would be the fact that he might not be the best player in Region X. Theres a lot of unknown players in that conference that would like to prove they are worth a mere million. He could get exposed as just another good high school talent that has a ways to go on the college level much less a 5 million dollar pro.
    My advice
" grab the money, thank everybody involved, say a prayer to god, get signed and get on your way to earning it. This could only happen in America."

Alright Cameron did what I thought. He did not go to school in hope that they can come up with an agreement. He now has between now and 2nd semester to sign....the saga continues

At a PG event for the underclass, I watched my son K him twice (argueing each time)...the 3rd time up my son plunked him (and just smiled). He's a good athlete and a nice player....No. 1? Nah....but it'sinthegame had it right. Justin was crowned #1 since he was 15 yo.

Interesting how times have changed. Used to be that everyone wanted these kids to get an education and go to school. Now, it is take the money stupid. Just interesting how things change over time.

Oh BTW, heard that his Dad really wants him to go to school. Maybe his Dad wants him to have another year to mature before having millions thrust upon him. Frankly, I will respect whatever decision the kid makes even though I would love him to come to Louisburg. It is between him and his family and there might be a lot more to it than just millions. Maybe his Dad wants what is best for his Son regardless of what some people, who don't know their situation at all, on a message board think. Just my 2 cents.
