I got an email asking for comments from NFCA members as to the new proposals approved by D1 schools and recruiting.
The D1 coaches have voted to no longer allow recruiting after Labor Day through Nov. ? at the various showcase tournaments held during this time period. They will, to my understanding, allow attendance at the Batbusters tourney and the Rising Stars. I personally feel this will really cut down the opportunities that my team has to showcase our talent locally at the several quality tournaments we now attend.
What's the feeling of other travel ball coaches ?
I would also recommend contacting the D1 coaches you know and express your thoughts.

I have contacted several coaches and for the most part they see good and bad in this proposal. The good for the coaches is this would reduce some of the travel demands placed on them, but most agree this proposal could have a negative impact for the student athletes by restricting the number of opportunities a player can be seen. Although it requires additional travel, some coaches use the fall to get a head start on other schools and look at the fall as a great time to evaluate talent they may not have seen otherwise.

Personally I can see where players playing in fall tournaments could have some slight negative effect on fall high school teams (other than softball). However if a girl is playing travel ball in the fall for a team that plays in the batbusters or rising stars tournaments, then she is very serious about her softball future and the high school coaches should respect that. :twocents:

Most of my kids have been signed in the fall, in fact all but two! It will hurt the teams that are not presently attending Rising Star and Batbusters. It is extremely expensive to fly to California for four days during the school year to play in the Batbusters. It will hurt the Fusion's fall event, Cardinals, Rick and Ray, and Florence just to name a few. Of course D-II and D-III will still attend. Are the coaches trying to save themselves from each other, kind of like major league owners? Just wondering? Major programs won't suffer as much as programs trying to become major!

    EXPOSURE

I had heard while I was at the ASA meeting in OKC that there would possibly be as many as 5 dates in the fall but the only 2 that were mentioned directly were the Batbusters and Rising Stars. These 2 tournaments are not only expensive to attend but almost impossible to get entered. To answer LBlues question. What I was told was the a couple of bigger D1 schools like OK were trying to limit contact with there potential players from other programs like UCLA. Evidently they were seeking the same recruits and wherever UCLA was OK would have to attend. Sounds like they are trying to protect themselves from themselves at the expense of several real ball players. The 1 advantage I see is for the D2s and 3s, they will have alot better chance of attracting some fine athletes.
