    good for you

Catchers dad is a great guy and very supportive parent. He goes to all the tournaments and supports every kid. I am sure you can ask Abbey Fan if he would like to have a few more parents like him. Good for you Steve, and do not change

I love the message board for both good and bad comments. We all say hurtful things from time to time and should be better role models for the younger ones, but if you don't like what you read or hear you should leave your feelings in the car. I am not on anyone's side on this matter, but we must all take what is on here with a grain of salt. There is a lot of useful Knowledge to be found on TBR.....can't we all just get along? Probably not, but hey that's what makes America so great! We might have rivals in school or rivals in TB, but when you see two or more girls from different teams talking between games.....that's what we should learn from! My goal this year is to be nicer to everyone I meet! Like I have told my DD this past fall, you never know who is listening or watching you at all times! If we say bad things on here and a college coach or potential new head coach is reading, oops what have you done? Think long term please.

I love the forum and insight you bring, please keep posting Rodney!

Let me rephrase that. We can express ourselves civilly and respectfully if we disagree. We are the grownups. We should know how to do that.

There are, at times, things that are said on here that make me shake my head. Instead of stirring the pot by replying in an attacking or inflaming mode, I'll PM the poster my thoughts to keep from polluting the board.

Do I do this every time? Nope, but I try to keep that thought in mind

    Everyone !!

One thing that I've found out,and I make mention of this time to time, I have a lot of friends, and between those friends there are those that dislike each other. Sometimes I get pulled into one of these situations that looks as though I'm siding with one of the parties that is involved. I end up telling the individual /s that I like both of you,and I want pit one over the other, and this seems to work at least 95% of the time. Listen most of us are in it for the same common goal to see our kid /s obtain some type of chance to play at a higher level, the last thing we need is controversy amongst each other. Everybody has an opinion, and I'm not here to say your are right or wrong, unless it is so out in L/F that it just isn't kosher to the topic !! I'm happy for those that are successful to reach their goals, one thing that I've realized over the past year my attitude about any situation seems to guide how my daughter feels...and is that FAIR ??? I'll be the first to confess, I'm as competitive as most of you,but I'm not going to say that my opinion is the only RIGHT opinion out there !!! One thing that I treasure is my friendships that I've made over the past / present years as I go from one field to the next...everywhere I go I'm no longer Brian but GURU...it makes me feel good to know that I have friends all over the state...now I know I've made enemies also, but the ones that I've made are my own fault....that saying....we are all that we've got...we are a breed in ourselves those that travel from field to field watching our DD's play this great game of "SOFTBALL "....

    Love ya, Guru :SmokinBanana:

    Gurus the TBR......

.....fall guy, scapegoat, punching buddy, unconditional post master! And we love ya brother. Your passion for the kids might not be appreciated in some of your posts, (Marlin excluded here), but there is no doubt your true interest is for the best for all of our DDs. "give 'em hell, guru" !

    Whats important........

...to one kid, or her family is not to be knocked down or, maybe, looked up upon, by any of us. If a kid wants to go to UNC, and be part of the national championship basketball team, all the while sit the bench,....is it any of our business? NO, BAM I'll give ya'll a little hint, my brother did something just like that. He was highly recruited, D1, chose Jimmy V's NCSU 81 team, and then got his ring in '83. He played in the semifinals v. Ga. but didn't see the court v. Houston. Hindsite is 20/20, I wish we all had it, but as for this example, playing time issues might have been hard on 'ol bro, but he has REAPED the rewards for being a part of this group. Don't underestimate the value of how important the involvement and participation of a team player without an attitude can be to your future!

Same discussion every year about this time

I like Charlie's adage about signing day that turns up in this thread each year. Braves, your statement essentially admits that D1 is generally better than D2. D3 schools competing with D1? . . you'd need to be pretty selective! It is an individual choice but the the facts are simply that:
    • Taken as whole, D1 ball is played at a considerably higher level than any other levels (I give you that L-R or Wingate could play with many D1 programs but most D2 programs can't).
    • The level of commitment to the sport is higher at D1 schools than other levels (if you don't believe this you have no idea about college sports)
    • There are many D1 schools where athletes get a great education.
My DD flies to San Diego this Thurs to play against UCLA, Oregon and Fresno State. You may say that 10 years from now it will not matter but to someone who loves the game as much as she does it does matter. It also matters to lots of other girls who pour the heart and soul into the game and want the opportunity to play against the best players in the world. NCAA D1 softball affords the opportunity to do this.

I don't see any disagreement there. Good luck to your DD this weekend. What a terrific experience!

Your absolutely right about the commitment from the schools...
If you are gonna field a Div 1 program, do it to compete at the highest level, not to just make a gender number work...

What a great memory your DD will have, about the west coast flight, the games, and everything else she will experience.

My point has always been to look at all options...
If your the top level player, it is a no brainer...
But if you eliminate everything but D1, you are taking away 79% of the
potential softball "jobs" at the college level... You better be REALLY
good if this is your life's passion.....

We leave for Va Beach on Thursday night, 3 days in a beach front hotel,
playing 6 games against teams from Va. Pa. NY, and Maine.
It is certainly not a west coast flight, but it will create a ton of memories for my kids..

That is really what a coach's job is.... the experience the player has, while getting their education.... sure, we all work hard to win...but there are so many other positive experiences that come out of being involved within the framework of a team sport...

This thread started out wanting to know if D1 softball was the only level worth talking about....
If that's your only focus...there is allot of great stories your missing...
