In baseball at the beginning of the year JV and V are playing different fields at the same time...later in the season you can find that happening.

Football plays different days and I'm sure there are exceptions, but I haven't seen a kid play play JV & V the same week....and based on the physicality, I don't believe I would allow it.

I would never admit it, but if the son of the #1 $$$ supporter of the program tried out, he'd find a spot on my roster. I wouldn't cut someone more deserving though. I'd just carry an extra player on the varsity. No integrity sacrificed & everybody benefits.

That is a tough call. I coached for years and I would have a hard time living with myself if I put a kid on the team just because his dad spent $$$ or time on the program. It just wouldn't feel right to me. I have a committment to my players to put the best players on the team and field that I possibly can and if they found out a kid was just "onthe team" because of what his parents did???? I think I would loose all credibility with my players.

I would have to say no to the situation.

I am by no means saying that I would not be appreciative for the parent helping out, but at the same time that they were helping out, you have to make it clear that it doesn't affect your decision concerning their son or daughter. YOu may lose their help in the short run but be better off in the long run. :thud:

    Yes It is wrong

Lets be honest here, the worst thing a coach can do is not be brutally honest with the player and parents. A Coach has to nuture this honesty in order to build his program. This is a sacrifice of principles with too high of a price. Does it happen? Sure it does. Take a look at the most successful programs around where you live. How many times has a Coach's integrity been called to attention over this? I would think the price is way too high for them to risk this.

I agree 100%. If you do that, it will open up a barrell of worms instead of a can. When I tried out for the team, I made it based on talent, heart, and play. I played on JV for my freshman and half of my sophomore season, my play got me called up to varsity. If my father was the reason for me playing varsity, I wouldn't accept it because I haven't made it based on my talent or my playing. You make the J.V. team based on talent, heart, and play, and you make the Varsity team based on talent, heart and play.

It's only fair to keep it that way...keep the parents out of it.

A player can play both Varsity and JV (with the exception of seniors) as long as they don't exceed the number of games allowed per week as established by the NCHSAA (4 per week with the 4th on a Saturday). As far as Football is concerned, I believe there is a new rule regarding playing V and JV but I dont know how it is worded.

    Parent Help and PLaying time

I know what this is like, I have hd parents that help then expect their kids to play, when they don't they stop supporting the program alltogether. Example, being a PA announcer and helping to keep the book then near the end of the season stopped and frankly said he would no longer suppport the program because he thought his son deserved more playing time. The kid eventually transferred to another high school. While I hated it for the kid, life goes on...
