The blue looks real good when you post it !!!! The palate is limited as far as color selections, but it's close enough. I thought that Myers Park pitched and played very well and just lost out to some timely clutch hitting. I give you a day posting in "green" ... see ya about noon.

Game #2: North Meck versus Myers Park

Started at noon today. Sam Pierce pitching for North Meck, Cody Drake for Myers Park.

Both pitchers started out very well. North started breaking through in the 2rd inning against Drake, plating a couple runs. They kept added a few more building up a 8-0 going into the top of the 7th. Pierce pitched the first 5 for North and gave up 1 hit (single). He also struck out 5. In the 7th, Myers Park got to Alan Parks and plated 3 runs on some very strong hitting, but they ran out of innings. For North, Blake Ewart, up from JV put on a show with his glove in LF and with the bat... this is a very good looking young ball player!!!!! Greg Allen hit a lazer back up threw the box that knocked Cody's glove off. He really smoked it.

    Final score:
North Meck 8, Myers Park 3
    WP: Sam Pierce

The hitting was more spread around for North today, with only one player (Mazzetti) having a multi-hit game.

I wanted to mention some of the guys on the MP team that have looked very good so far. Some casual thoughts/comments:

Scott Matthews is a very good looking SS. Scott Frye is doing the job well at 2B. I like the promise that Jordan Cudney shows. He's going to be a good one. With the bat, David Castevens, Jack Myers and Jack McGee are providing some nice pop. Jeremy Mathis and Cody Drake both pitched very well in extended outings. MP may be a notch behind Providence right now, but not by much. They have shown a good fundamental approach at the plate, solid defense and good pitching. As they continue to gel, they will get stronger towards the end of the season.

Congrats to North Meck on their win. Zack Pou also had two hits with 2rbis in the second game. Congrats to Damien and Zack on a great hitting job

    3:00 Hopewell 10, Parkwood 5
    6:00 Independence 4, Myers Park 0
    Thursday:
    12:00 Hopewell vs. Myers Park
    3:00 Independence vs. Parkwood

North was very impressive again today. Pierce was as sharp as I've seen him and the team can flat out hit from top to bottom. They are going to be tough for anyone to beat come playoff time.

Parkwood was very scrappy in the 3:00 game and gave Hopewell all they could handle. I really like the job Coach Mennitt and Coach Hammers are doing with the young, clearly out-manned squad. I look for them to get better and better every year. The kids play hard and compete.

In the nightcap, Independence got all 4 of the game's runs in the 5th, with a pinch-hit double by Wes Elkins and a 2 run bomb by Daniel Cooke being the key blows. Otherwise, it was a very well pitched game between Myers Park's Scott Brewer and Indy's Robby Bray, who got the complete game shutout win.

Myers Park is struggling to score runs this week, with only 4 in 21 innings, but I guess that's not too surprising agaist the pitching they've faced. That's Porter (3 innings), Rosenbaum (3), Mazetti (1), Pierce (5), Parks (2), and Bray (7). I hear Hopewell is bringing in Curt Shilling to pitch tomorrow. :lalala: Anyway, the experience this week should be good in the long run for the beleaguered Mustangs -- they need to get it going tomorrow and then next week when they return to conference play with Olympic and South.

    Hopewell 10 - Parkwood 5

WP - Dusty White, LP - Brandon Springs

Hopewell struck first in putting some runs on the scoreboard, with Parkwood fighting back in 2nd to go ahead. Then the Titans bats begin to come alive in the 3rd and Hopewell went back on top to stay the remainder of the game. Both teams struggled with errors, with Hopewell having 5 on the record books and Parkwood having 6, but in actuality, there were several more. White pitched the first six for Hopewell with freshman Adam Waters coming in to close it out in the 7th. Andy Oliver went 2 for 4, including a 2-run homerun and Dusty White went 2-3 - both gettting some clutch RBI's at a key point in the game. Parkwood's Lee went 3 for 3 at the plate, getting three of their 8 hits.

I just heard that today's noon game between Hopewell and Myers Park has been cancelled because of the rain and that the Myers Park players were relesed to return to the beach. The "afternoon thunderstorm" predictions turned into morning rain. I don't know anything for sure about the Parkwood/Independence game scheduled for 3, but I suspect it has also been cancelled.
