2012 JACOB ROTHMAN - Providence High School / South Charlotte Panthers has committed to attend school and play baseball at the Massachutes Institute of Technology. MIT competes in the NCAA NEWMAC Conference and are coming off of a 2011 berth in the NCAA play offs. Jacob will join the Engineers this fall after completing his senior season with the Providence Panthers.

Congratulations to Jacob and his parents Jeff and Denise.

I've known Jacob and his family for several years and believe me, there is no better or more deserving player anywhere than Jacob Rothman. Not only is he an exceptional player at a great baseball program (Providence) - but Jacob is the definition of a true student-athlete. Wow - MIT!!! That speaks for itself. Congrats to Jacob, Jeff, Denise, and the rest of the Rothmans!!

    Amazing Job Jacob!!!!!

I tried to get into MIT once. They wouldn't let me in.

Then I told them, "look, I only want to get a soda out of the vending machine, then i'll be on my way."

They still wouldn't let me in.

    Smarty Pants!

    Congrats Jacob!

I heard on the radio this morning that 7 of the top 10 most respected schools in the world are in the US, with MIT being one of the 7 along with Harvard, Stanford and an impressive list of others. They went on to say that of all high school aged students in China, the most recognized university in the US was MIT! SO, I figure if you can learn Chinese while you are making your way through MIT....the sky is the limit! (but please, if you get a chance, tell Newt that a colony on the moon is a very bad idea!)

    Good luck!

I can't even spell Massachooseit, so I doubt they would have let me in. Shoot, just having a SC edjamacashun would have ruled me out,

Congrats to Jacob and to his family. What a great honor!:SCA+HL:

For anyone looking at this and possibly thinking, "Oh he got in because he's an athlete."

Not a chance that applies to MIT. I looked at going there. Coach said I had too many B's (and no I didn't have any C's). One of my current teammates got waitlisted there, and he had a 1510 SAT out of 1600.

Congratulations to Jacob. He's going to the best engineering school in the world, and he will be playing baseball at an on-the-rise program that has the potential to be a future frontrunner in Division 3 baseball.

Helluva job kid, keep it up!
