In case anyone missed the 2,000 times Morgan alluded to it, he's in the Hall of Fame.

Harold landed on his feet and in a much better situation on the MLB Network. Doing an awesome job there.

I thought he was great in the draft last night, especially when Mike Trout (who was in studio) got picked up by the Angels and was celebrating in studio with family, friends and did the Jersey on the stage with The Commish....Harold IMMEDIATELY called out ALL the players who were projected to go in the first round and scolded them for not being there in studio for the draft. Drew loud applause from everyone that was in studio. (Of course. he prefaced that by excusing those players who were preparing for the CWS.) Was a great lil speech he gave... Attaboy Harold!

If Joe Morgan doesn't elude to how MLB has kept the players and coaches of color down at least once during a broadcast, his work is not done. I simply can not stand to listen to his dribble... especially criticizing (jealousy) todays power hitters while at the plate (and who usually wind up driving hard into the gap, making the last 3 minutes of his diatribe seem stupid).

TIm McGarver...what more can be said...get him off the air... his commentary is simply to hear himself talk. He definately has a firm grasp on the obvious....

    Ex-players?

I thought Harold Reynolds did a real good job with the LLWS. Also, I prefer to remember Joe Morgan for his playing days, not his announcing. I admit, that alot of ex-players are really annoying on TV sports shows. The NFL pre-game shows are loaded with ex-players & all they are trying to do is one-up each other. ESPN has to fill alot of air time, but do we really need 5 panelists to analyze every single issue that comes up these days?

I guesss even old schoolers hate Joe... I pay little attention to any of the announcers opinion on any network unless they mention or say something technical-wise about the game... I never felt Joe was arrogant, condescending etc... but maybe it was for me just not listening. As someone said earlier I'd rather remember him in his playing days however he does know the game, and he does know what he is talking about regardless of everyone else's opinion. It is what it is, and he must be appreciated by someone for what he knows and brings for he wouldn t be there for what now 20 years?:th_90edab00:

For an oldtimer like myself there will never be anyone that can match Dizzy Dean and PeeWee Reese. This was in the days when Falstaff and National beer brought you the game of the week on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Ol' lefthander rounding third and headin' for home...

I loved listening to the Reds on radio in the early 70's with Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxhall. Nuxhall was playing in the Majors at age 16 and had a nice career with the Reds. After retiring, he was Brennaman's sidekick back then, but took over play-by-play for a few innings each game. Hot, muggy nights out on the porch with the radio broadcast and Joe putting you to sleep with his slow, lazy delivery are as clear to me in mind as if it happened last night. He always closed the post game wrap up with his signature sign-off, "And now the ol' lefthander is rounding third and headin' for home".

I was the fourth generation to listen to the Reds over the radio on that same porch and I wish I was there right now......

There was never anyone like Dizzy Dean announcing. The poor guy got flooded in mail by school teachers protesting his unusual language. But I loved him. He spoke like a baseball player: "Kubek takes off for 2nd base and slud in for the steal."

I think Dizzy sampled some of the sponsors product during the game and got more colorful as the game went on.

After reading this post it makes you feel like you're there. It seems like many of the current announcers evolved from a cookie cutter...bland, no personality

No...I like Joe. I think as time has gone by, he has become a little stale, but he knows the game and is very intelligent. I always thought Joe would make a good GM. I've heard several players state that he is well respected by the current players. I think as all of us get older, we find that we ramble and talk about the good ol' days too much.
