To me this is by far your most important role and the reason there is a special place in heaven for coaches.

This doesn’t account for any errors that are made by the defense. They go as AB’s and lower the Team Batting Average even more!

7 Innings of At Bats
5 Hits and 21 Outs = 5 for 26 (.192)!!!!
6 Hits and 21 Outs = 6 for 27 (.222)
9 Hits and 21 Outs = 9 for 30 (.300)

Your team has to get 9 hits in a 7 inning game to bat .300 and that’s if their defense plays error free. Everyone thinks of a 9 hit game as a good night don’t they.

6 Innings of At Bats (if you win at home)
5 Hits and 18 Outs = 5 for 23 (.217)
6 Hits and 18 Outs = 6 for 24 (.250)

Well you get the picture. So from now on when you see a box score and each team had 4 hits you’ll realize that combined they were 8 for 50! A whopping .160!

AND Remember there are very few HS games where there aren’t at least 3 or 4 errors.

Now you know why I roll my eyes when you tell me that Johnny is hitting .500! Johnny is not hitting .500 in the SW4A or anywhere else for that matter. I'd bet there aren't very many players in your league hitting over .300 much less .500.

And now you know why the college coach doesn’t care about stats.

what this tells me is southreners aren't very good at baseball. stick to what you know best: fishing, picking your nose and sweet tea.

Can he charge the ball quickly and under control? Can he run good routes on fly balls? Can he really really play his position? Is he a shortstop, centerfielder or catcher? If not beware. Colleges recruit shortstops and fast centerfielders. The best shortstop plays shortstop. The 2nd best shortstop plays 2b. The third best shortstop plays 3b. The 4th best shortstop plays LF and so on. If you are a corner outfielder or corner infielder you really better be able to hit or they'll put a shortstop there instead. This is what Clemson did with Richie Shaffer his Freshman year. He was a shortstop and wound up playing 1B the entire year. Oh by the way, he fielded 1.000!

Never heard it stated that way, but a good point....and there are several examples from around here that have been moved from the infield to the outfield (as you suggest)

And to think we gave you Andy Griffith! Please apologize - or at the very least spell southeRners correctly.

Oh, and the word that really should be placed in front of the word southreners in your sentence, in order to begin a relative clause.
We won't even discuss capitalization.

So, about what do you folks know?

Its always typical on a message board to have someone like you that cannot stick to the subject without throwing some sort of stupid remark like being a southern, etc in the equation. I just wanted to let you know that baseball knowledge in your neck of the woods must be lacking as well. In a seven inning game there is a possibility a team can go...

5-12= .417
7-14= .500

You scramble for 5 hits in a game, a couple walks, sac bunt, sac fly and then the third out in each inning, maybe a stolen base here and there and guess what? 5 hits gets you .417 as a team.

If I'm wrong I guess I will just have to go back and bait a hook and enjoy a glass of fresh brewed sweet tea.

You forgot that there are 3 outs per inning .. in a 7 inning game with 5 hits, the team would be 5-26, not 5-12

Now don't tell the folks in another thread, but I'm pretty sure Andy was out of position for the call...

And oh yea - MIF, maybe cut Grid and Mud some slack. I thought they were just kiddin' with us "southreners".
