    South Caldwell 10
    West Johnston 7

South Caldwell vs Cary tomorrow @ 1pm Winner will play West Johnston for the Championship after this game.

The pitcher for West Johnson took a line drive off his ankle and had to be helped off the field and the centerfielder for South Caldwell was taken by ambulance to the Hospital with a concussion. Pray that both of these kids will be ok.

    Congrats to W. Johnston

Yesterday's game was as good a baseball game as you will see between two 17u teams. With a state championship on the line both teams played at a high level. Great pitching by both pitchers, some great defensive plays by both teams and some timely hits by W. Johnston won the game for West. Both W. Johnston and S. Caldwell are class programs with great coaches and respectful kids who love the game and want to play the right way.

"17U"? What's the age limit on Jr. Legion? That struck me as old. I'm more familiar with the regular Legion but I was thinking Jr. Legion was 14-15, maybe 16 year olds. Just curious....

    Big Congratulations!

I think thats what it turned in to really when 19's were allowed to play SR Legion. Some teams/areas of the state keep it 14-15 year olds while some have rising juniors/seniors playing.

    Jr. Legion 17u

Jr. Legion is 17u. Each program handles their teams differently. Most are Soph. who just finished their JV seasons with a few rising Sr.s who remain 17 till Dec. 31. S. Caldwell's team was basically the 10th graders from their JV team with 4 rising Sr.'s with 3 or 4 freshman from the JV team. Several programs field two teams. Two Area IV programs, S.C. and Watagua had two teams. It is a really inexpensive way to give the players some games since most teams play on their high school fields and are coached by their high school coaches. The only expense is umpires and baseballs.
Other programs have tryouts like Sr. Legion teams and have players from several schools.
Both SC and WJ were single school teams.

    and........

I'm assuming the teams with ages more to the rising jr's & sr's usually dominate.?

in senior legion , do any of the traditionally stronger teams have younger guys that contribute? like rising soph's & jr's?

    Strong teams

Usually the teams with rising Sr's do well but not always. SC feeds Post 29 Caldwell County which is a traditionally strong Legion Program. By the time the Sr. team chooses their 18 that leaves some really good players to play for the Jr. Legion teams.
