The 2010 Junior Legion Season brings several changes in the play of the game. Since the inception of Jr. Legion ball NC High School rules governed play of the game. I am sorry to say it will not be carried on to 2012. Beginning this year the Jr. Legion game will be played under Major League rules, The game will still be seven innings in length however, there will be NO RE-ENTRY, NO COURTESY RUNNERS, and DH WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED FOR THE PITCHER ONLY. These changes were put in place by the American Legion National Baseball Committee. Also, as I have written previously, the NCHSAA has dis allowed the Legion exemption for High School coaches being able to coach more that eight of their players at any one time prior to the end of the school year. This means that one High School Jr Legion teams coached be the High School coach or members of his staff will not be able to begin league play until the school year has ended. :bomb:

The NCHSAA rules apply the same to all programs so junior legion is no more dead than any other league. I don't agree with the NCHSAA, but that is not going to change anything. If senior legion is still exempt then that is the only exception to my knowledge. The lost art of creativity and working with someone can resolve the issue though. Two high school coaches can get together and share kids. Hold eight for one team and pass eight to the other guy and vice versa. Only issues are lack of control & keeping the high school guys all playing together. They will all still face the same competition. The high school coaches that are trying to keep their high school team together for summer are having negative affects from that anyway. I would be happy to establish a junior team for every high school that I carry for senior legion. Blend all the kids together and let them play. Do what is right for the kids and it will work. Keep the puppet strings attached and be prepared for a tangled up mess.
