Central Cabarrus won their 6th straight jv conference championship going undefeated with a 21-0 record this season. I believe Northwest Cabarrus and Mount Pleasant also had good teams this year.

Do any of these teams or other JV teams have really outstanding players or do most of the outstanding players play up?

Usually they will play up if they are that good, but some teams that have very strong varsity programs wil often have several good players on jv.

    pitchers

what about a 9th or 10th player that may be a good pitcher but also a very good position player / batter. This player may be the best (or only) pitcher that the JV team can use, and is not the level of pitcher that the varsity already has in upperclassmen. We all know that all teams including JV needs a decent pitcher in order to have a chance to produce wins for the TEAM and it can be long days at the ballpark without a decent pitcher.
Pitchers are obviously a primary ingredient in the success of programs, but in most cases I've seen a team does not need several good pitchers. Most HS varsity teams normally have 1 or 2 pitchers they rely on and maybe 3 at the very most.

    jv teams

Randleman HS won their JV conference. It is their first year in a 3A division and they had a 15-1 overall record. Beating ND (4A) and Central Davidson in non-conference and SWR (our only loss was to SWR) and Eastern Randolph in conference play.

My daughter was in that same situation with being really the one of the only pitchers they had for the JV, also knowing that she would get no mound time on the Varsity team. But that was ok, she got to play every inning of every game and actually honed her pitching skills instead of honing her riding skills. We have several girls who are currently working on their pitching because we are losing 8 seniors off the varsity team this year and they will definetly (?) have to pull from our JV next season.

Personally, I think that after seeing several HS programs, it tends to be more political than performance based unlike the travel ball that she plays. There is going to be a much larger talent base for our HS to draw from based on the number of girls that we have in our local rec leagues and the number of new travel teams that are coming along also.
