There are two teams in Greensboro this summer. And yes one of which will play home games at Ragsdale and have Ragdale players on it. However, they do have players from several other area schools. I understand that the Ragdale "tag" is easy to use, and is used to distinguish between the two teams. However, it would be like calling the Kernersville Post, East Foresyth. Or Last years Rowan County team, East Rowan. Legion baseball is about the community and area, not one school. So the team that will use Ragsdales field is Greensboro Post 53.

    ?????????????????

As far as freshmen, there have been several who have tried out in the past but only a few who have made the team. There are only a couple of impact freshmen in the recent past. Alec Zumwalt who shares the Legion state homerun record with Ralph Roberts is one. Alec signed with Carolina and was drafted by the Braves in '99 in the 4th round and has been converted into a pitcher within the last year and a half with a mid-90s fastball and ironically, one of his teammates in the Myrtle Beach bullpen is no other than Ralph Roberts!! Goes to show you good arms are more valuable than good bats. The other Kernersville legion player who played as a freshman was Ryan Blake who also signed with Carolina and is a 5th year senior this year due to a injury redshirt. He was also drafted out of high school but has suffered several injuries while at Carolina.

And I would guess, as of July, Ryan Marion will be sweating it out in Florida during those lovely 2pm games of Rookie ball.

homerswin if you are affiliated with Greensboro Post 53 I would love to hear more about the team. Roster, schedule etc.

I'm probably the only Ragsdale fan ( and alumnus) on this board and thanks to Braves and all his co-horts they have turned me into a high school baseball fan. So any news you can share regarding the Post 53 team will be greatly appreciated

this question to caroliner you mentioned the state american legion home run record well what is the record how many did ralph roberts and alex zumwalt hit. did they break coe briers record from salisbury, mike rinehardt from concord or franklin stubbs of hamlet . these guys hit several home runs in a season.

    Homerun4.........
I can't remember exactly the number when Zumwalt broke it but I'm thinking 26. But I know Stubbs was the holder when Alec broke it and then Roberts tied Alec. In another twist, Stubbs is a hitting instructor in the Braves' organization. So the top 3 NC Legion Homerun hitters are all with the Braves, 2 of which are now pitchers. I will find out from Alec what the record number is for sure.

...don't let Wossa fool ya. He only goes to the Ragsdale games because the Tigers are the only school in NC that fields a cheerleading squad for baseball games :)

Wossa, you missed a good one at Piedmont. But, you're right...it would have been a long ride home
