TBR's adopted team is off and running with their new uniforms. They are undefeated in them, 3-0, after coming off a huge win against Farmville Central--preseason #9 team. They have another huge game against rival North Lenoir tonight---Coach Wade's alma mater.

Here's hoping he is 4-0 after tonight.

thanks guys. it really felt great. the best thing was how all of our fans hung around until after we talked and cleaned the field up to congratulate all of the players.

Blake Herring (jr) was the winning pitcher, throwing 78 pitches in a complete game effort.

Sometimes you do something because it’s the right thing to do. In the case of Kinston High School baseball, the members of TBR’s community did the right thing.

Coach Wade of Kinston was overwhelmed with challenges this season. He was concerned with not having a JV team or an assistant. He was concerned that they wouldn’t have the equipment that was needed to encourage players to come out for the team. At a time when many HS team’s across the state are forced to have tryouts and cuts, Coach Wade was concerned whether he had enough players to field a team.

TBR stepped up and helped supplied gloves, bats, shoes, catcher’s equipment, uniforms and money; all of which was greatly needed….and still is needed. But, no matter how much was needed to sustain the program, it takes local supporters to continue that…and up stepped current player, Blake Herring to fill those shoes. He was troubled by the dilapidated batting cages the players named “the deathtrap,” and decided to do something about it: http://www.kinston.com/news/herring-52074-scout-eagle.html

“It wasn't a tough decision for Blake Herring to make when he was choosing his Eagle Scout project - he followed his heart.
Herring, a 16-year-old sophomore who plays on the Kinston High School baseball team, saw a need his school had - a new outdoor batting cage - and made it his goal to finish it for his project to help him earn the Boy Scout's top honor: the Eagle Scout ribbon.
With the help of his father and some local businesses, organizations and individuals, Herring's dream is now a reality. The facility, which covers around 4,000 square feet, includes four covered batting cages and a soft-toss area.
"I wanted to do something for my school," Herring said. "I thought the baseball program needed a lot more help than anything else at the school."

Kinston HS baseball team is off to a 5-0 start. How long they stay undefeated remains to be seen, but regardless of what enfolds the rest of the year, they can always look back at this season and be proud of their accomplishment.

Sometimes all a team needs is for someone to care about them or give them a helping hand. In the case of Kinston High School Baseball, what they have already accomplished this year makes them winners.

    Great job, Blake Herring!

As some of you know, I was very close to moving down to Kinston to help Coach Wade and the Vikings. The job situation didn't work out so I was forced to stay around here. I really wish you guys could of seen what I saw this summer when I made a visit down. I don't think ya'll understand how much the TBR community helped that program. A 5-0 start on top of that is a great storyline but I know Wade and his players aren't content and are ready to win some championships. I also had a chance to meet Blake Herring this summer and he's a great kid. Apparently he can pitch some too. Way to go bud!

    Good luck Kinston!
