Lady Buffs sweep Mars Hill

    Lady Buffs sweep Mars Hill
    Mars Hill, NC (February 29, 2004) — The Milligan College Lady Buffs softball team defeated NCAA Division II Mars Hill (N.C.) College by the scores of 2-0 and 7-1 Sunday afternoon.
    In the first game, junior Brandy Waddle pitched a no hitter. This is the second straight no hitter in as many games for Milligan. Traci Harrison pitched a no hitter Wednesday against Montreat. Waddle, she set a new school record as she needed 56 pitches in the seven inning game.
    Milligan gained the lead on a two out single from freshman Leah Fritts in the third inning. The base hit scored Megan Aldridge and Rebecca Gilley.
    Waddle finished the game with ten strikeouts and one walk. For Mars Hill in the loss, Kristi Marszalec pitched seven innings allowing two runs on three hits.
    In the final game, Milligan started with a one run lead. Senior Shelby Banion scored on a base hit from junior Brooke Davis in the top of the first inning.
    Mars Hill would score in the bottom of the first, Tessa Ashwell scored on a double from Audrey Riffle.
    The Lady Buffs would add four runs in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Banion cleared the bases with a double to score three runs. Banion would come around to score on a base hit from Harrison.
    Milligan would add two more runs in the sixth inning as Fritts brought two more Lady Buffs home with a double.
    On the mound was Harrison as she went all seven innings allowing one run, while scattering six hits with six strikeouts. For Mars Hill in the loss, Lyn Loomis who went seven innings allowing 11 hits, seven runs, three of which were earned.

    nice win for Milligan! Sounds like the pitching and hitting are coming out the gate strong............great winter workouts ahhhhhhhhhh??

    Yea gettin a big ol hug from DD always gets the week off on right foot. She played well too.
