dang it.....it could have been bases loaded with 2 outs and Tyler at the bat---But congrats to Nick Keith. What a dramatic win.!!!

When you get to this level of the playoffs, it doesn't matter how you win---just win!

Tough loss tonight to swallow for the East Rowan Mustangs. Too many hit batsman and too many walks. Zach Smith provided the offense for ER with a three-run shot off of Lomoscola. Lake Norman responded with two runs in the next half inning. The game held at 3-2 for a while before the Wildcats won it in the bottom of the 7th. Pretty unbelievable game tonight, Corbin Shive looked like he was going to carry ER to the victory and nearly did. Preston Troutman started tonight and was lifted with what looked like to be leg cramps. Great season for East and congrats to LKN on the win. Represent the NPC.

    No Rest For The Weary!

Out of the frying pan, into the fire!

Next up for Lake Norman is a team that seems to be peaking at the right time: Tuscola!

Tuscola, a #3 seed has made it this far by beating conference rivals & higher seeded T.C. Roberson & North Buncombe. Tuscola has belted 32 team home runs, led by state leader, Cody Stubbs with 15!:cheers2:

well this was the best game ive ever seen in high school. my picks came through Zach Smith hit a 3 run homerun that just went over Tyler Lewis glove in LF for ER 3 runs.

Joe Faist had a big 2 rbi single that made it 3-2 ER then a drag bunt in the bottom of the 7th that put 2 on for the hero Nick Keith.

Ross Whitley also did just as i predicted came in and shut the door with chants(lets go east and wild-cats) in his ear he did the job.

Shive was pretty much rolling till the bottom of the 7th
..... Nick Keith who was the first batter to see Shive had a 13 pitch at bat his 1st at bat, 2nd ab hit a line drive. then he got the game winning single.... 1st base was open with 2 outs runners on 2nd and 3rd and with #9 hitter Tyler Lewis on deck, Coach Hightower decided to pitch to Nick the (#8 hitter) and he came through....:willy_nilly:

I was also almost right with my score predicition it ended up 4-3... Great game... hate that one npc team had to knock out another....

    Lake Norman will host Tuscola!

    Game of inches....

The Lake Norman vs. East Rowan game was fantastic and it proved the old axiom that baseball is a game of inches. The game was well played by both teams (as expected)...only flaw was East putting several runners on base by hit batsmen, including the winning run. East hit two other batters, but the plate umpire ruled that the batters did not attempt to avoid contact with the pitch. In both cases, the pitch was a high inside curveball that the batter turned his back to and the ball clipped the shoulder of the batter...blue may have ruled that the batter turning his back to the ball actually put the left shoulder out into the path of the slow moving pitch...called it twice in the same inning much to the vocal dismay of the LN fans (once taking the tying run off the board for LN). East got their three runs on a towering home run by Zach Smith that just got beyond the glove of the left fielder as he tracked the ball to the fence in the left field corner.

The winning rally in the bottom of the 7th started with a clean single to left center and then a hit batter. After a strikout looking and a ground out to first that advanced the runners, Nick Keith stepped to the plate. With two outs, bottom of the 7th and after looking at a center-cut fastball from Shive, he drove the next pitch hard in the hole between third and short. The third baseman for East made an all-out diving effort to catch the ball. If he had been able to catch it, the tying run would have scored anyway. His deflection of the ball caused it to die in shallow left field and the winning run slid in safely as the Lake Norman fans erupted.

So, East scored three on a home run that clears the glove of the left fielder by mere inches and the winning run for Lake Norman scores on a sharp single that evades the glove of the East third baseman by just inches as well.

East Rowan had yet another great year acc to East Rowan standards, right there competing for championships at the end. But this year has belonged to Lake Norman all along. These 2 teams were very close in coaching, hitting, defense, and both had that true shutdown pitcher. In my eyes, the only difference was Lake Norman can comeback with a 2nd/3rd pitcher who would be most teams' ace.

Congrats to the Lake Norman bunch on this big win. I'm still picking LKN to win it all.
