Lander University beat UNCP twice yesterday. Lander's #1 pitcher, Cory Hopper, is as good as anyone that you could want. UNC transfer Jeff May was 4-7 with 2 doubles. I think the coaching staff will have these guys challenging for the Peach Belt upper echelon very quickly.

There also must have been some impressive pitching by Lander as they held UNCP to a total of 10 hits in 60 AB's (.167) over two games on Saturday. The Braves had a team batting average over .325 entering this series. My hat is off to the Bearcats.

Just got back from watching the Lander vs. UNCP games on Saturday (Sunday's game got washed out). Plenty of scouts in the stands to watch both of Lander's starting pitchers, Cory Hopper and Chris Thomas. The two pitchers were fantastic, and Ross Davis threw three innings of relief in the second game that were equally impressive. Both games were tight all the way and featured good defense and clutch hitting (at least by Jeff May; he was on base all day). Can't say I was happy about the outcome, but I was glad to see such quality baseball.
