Although I do agree to certain parts. We must understand how it works today. Administrators are now having to go out and get funds from outside sources just to sometimes run a school on the academic side. More over this job is hampered by those who are looking to expand by unseededing those who are in the power chair. The school systems of today are just about or worst than the goverment. The really be truthful the school systems needs to be ran like a business.

Here is a link to the budget request for athletic in 07-08 year
    http://www.cms.k12.nc.us/discover/2007-08BudgetRequest.pdf

Look on page 237-238 for the athletic budget request.

Looking at the other numbers for educational purposes, sports dont bring in money to schools, education does. As an administrator, your purpose is to keep your job and improve a schools education. They are not their to make sure every baseball field has balls and bats. I play college ball and its the same for us. Its not fair because we are a D2 school and the only reason you go there is to play sports but academics come first. The state of NC will not take over your school because your baseball team sucks, they take it over because of academics. Thats why a lot of money schools bring in is to make sure the children are getting a proper education.

I think that more funding should at least go into physical education among all three levels. This will hopefully provide kids a chance to stay physiclly active and hopefully engage in more sports then in turn maybe we would have a reason to pump more money into athletics. But with schools having so many kids and more than half of those kids dont play a school sport, not as much money will be pumped into sports. Its unfortunate for the athletes/athletics but it is what it is.

With the population growing so fast in Charlotte the demands for more elementary/middle/high schools out weighs that of athletics. We can sit here and complain all we want but money goes to academics and schools being built to overcompensate for the growth of Charlotte. They will build a field for you when they build the school and give you money to start it out and then once the construction is done then its best of luck.

    Just my two cents...

This is a sensitive subject. But FWIW, you have to have a feeder system. Along with a lot of other things but we're not going there.

being a black man doesn't make me an expert on why blacks are playing less and less baseball but it does give me more of an opportunity to get honest answers from the community. I grew up playing all the major sports in high school but baseball is the one that i loved. My boys were exposed to baseball day and night, so that is where their love of the game come from. Kids today in the black community are exposed to football and basketball at a early age so that is where their interest lies. Parents of these kids spend their money on thosed sports. The kids also know that in basketball you go straight to the nba, in football, straight to the nfl. In baseball you have the many levels you have to go through to play in the major leagues. These kids and families want that instant gratification and financial security. These are just some of the reasons, why blacks particpating baseball, are low. But back to the original question, lets not kid ourselves if we think demographics or even economics doesn't play a big role in why some high schools are more successful than others.

I was only seeking clarification as to why you stated these groups as a reason for unsucessful baseball program. Your statment was open ended, I agree with your assessment of the interest of black kids being in football and basketball, however in your orginal post you did not mention those things. I was not trying to question your knowledge of game but to clarify your point which you did your other post.

Sometimes school administration has as much to do with it as anything. I'll give you the perfect example on one of the schools mentioned above. When Mike Schildt was first getting started around here he approached the staff at West Charloote about coaching the program. He was not teaching but wanted to coach. He was granted the job. In 2 years there he re-established the JV program which was non-existant, created renewed interest in baseball at the school, and implemented fundraisers that created the funds needed to buy new uniforms for the team. They had workdays to clean up the field and make it to where they could have a respectable place to play. As best as I can remember in his second or maybe third season they finished third in the conference and went to the playoffs. Quite an accomplishment. The following year the school administrators decided because he was not a teacher they replaced him with the JV coach, whom Mike had recruited to help with the program. Of course Mike went on to bigger and better things but the fate of the baseball program, well, you see it for yourself.

Come see Parkland High School play this year and tell me what you think. There is a great blend of all peoples and we are all friends. At Parkland, we dont really pay attention to that stuff. Guess it's just where you come from.
