Stingray you are right. Would be tough to get the ump to call any of these illegal. They just won't do it unless there's lots of air between the back foot and the ground. Number 8 maybe but probably not.
I did see one call an illegal pitch on a pitcher last year for coming out of the 24" on a young lady throwing a screwball. I was actually impressed that he noticed it.

Lefty, she looks fine to me.........I see a little light under that drag foot but she looks young and she'll be dragging the toes out of her shoes before you know it if she's any thing like my DD was at that age.

The pictures at top is all legal except picture #8. The lefty looks like it may be the white part of her cleat at the toe and ground but not sure. I would say she is legal. As long as the pitcher keeps her pivot foot in contact with the plate or the ground when the front foot touches the ground it is a legal pitch. If the front foot lands outside of 24" zone of pitching plate then it is a illegal pitch.

    1. Illegal- definitely a replant Legal
    2. Legal-too close to call. Legal
    3. Legal Legal
    4. Illegal- definitely a replant Legal
    5. Legal- looks good since she has already delivered the ball Legal
    6. Legal Legal
    7. Illegal- looks like she has seperated from the rubber and replanted Legal
    8. Illegal-Leaping Agree without seeing the rubber. If there is a hole in front this wont and shouldn't be called. She is close enough to touching that any umpire that calls it is off base. This happens so fast there is no way you see this without slowing it down with video or a camera.
    9. Legal (Hopefully this was warm-up with the facemask lying on the ground) can't tell if she still has contact with the rubber. Legal

In the time I have followed school ball, college and travel ball I have only seen two kids make a actual replant/second push off. More times than I can count I have heard people in the stands screaming for Crow Hop to be called. Most that don't know better confuse the "leap" with the "crow hop". Most of this is better left alone unless there is some extreme advantage being gained.

Can I update my guesses and that's what they are because I am no umpire, and I don't want to be.

All are legal except #8 (Leaping). In #1, you can actually see the drag mark.

    Good job everyone.

Most umpires will not call illegal unless it is real obvious. We teach our girls to just go to the plate and hit the ball. That will get better results than trying to argue.

Good point! I can't say I have ever seen a coach or a fan complaining when the opposing pitcher is getting hit on.
I wouldn't want to be an umpire either!

Since a single picture cant reveal what actually happened during the pitch, it's difficult to say which were legal pitching motions...only that they werent ILLEGAL at the time of the picture. A still frame cannot show something that requires action such as a replant.

So, the only one that looks illegal is #8. The right foot has left the ground. It is clear that the foot is above the surrounding ground and not just above a groove. Pivot foot must stay contact with the rubber or drag on the ground UNLESS the ground in front of the rubber is missing (not level, for example) so that the foot location would actually have touched the ground [if the ground was still there].

This one looks legal because the foot would still be in contact with the ground if the ground was not scratched away from in front of the rubber. At least I would not call it.
