    Legal

Certainly there is a lot of humor going on here.

But to your question. It doesn't seem illegal. I could be wrong. Probably am.

What is there to gain from a camera in the back stop area?

IMO there is none to gain. Got to see them live.

PS. What the heck is a "strom?" Braves?

Not sure what gain there would be. It was just a strange thing to see. Never before. At a high school field. Not sure if it is really anything. Just the cameras were set (mounted) on each side, not sure what the field of vision would be. I can help with the strom thing. It was for Baves. I was trying to type in South Carolina text. Little old school with the texting thing.

Hahahahahahahaha. Yep. His given name was actually "Storm" when he was younger, but got tired of people in SC misspelling it.

    Now, you know...........

Cameras are fine. Any sport can film its contests - you just don't see it as often in baseball. The only thing that would be illegal is if the coaches reviewed it during the game. I know Piedmont has a camera behind home plate and after the game their legion coaches review it to see how your strike zone was (if you gave more on the corners, etc.).

    It's the batter.

The coaches may use them to help improve a batters swing. Could have nothing to do with the opposing team or umpire. If they view the plate, I would think they are more for the batter. Just my opinion.

I remember in my son's junior year in high school his team was in 1st place in the conference with a big game coming up the next week against our cross-county rivals. A dad of one of the players of the rival team came over to our place and set a camcorder up directly behind home plate and filmed our entire game against another team. I guess what he was doing was filming our pitcher that would be scheduled to pitch against them the next week. We heard rumors all week that his team watched the video to see what they could pick up on tipping pitches and movement. This is great strategy and would be very effective for hitters to watch. That is the only time I have ever seen anything like this done at the high school level. Football teams exchange films and that makes sense. I think only this man who did this would have the nerve. I bet if someone had gone to their place and tried this they would have left with a broken camera. Well it worked very well as our pitcher who was having a great season got bombed the next week when we played them. It was like they knew what was coming. Duh. They won the game and the conference from us. The funniest part about it is he could have not even had a tape in the camera or even recorded anything. The pitcher was aware of the camera and the rumors and I think he was mentally beat before he even got on the bus.

If this is legal then the other guy did a better job of preparing. We could have at least attempted the same thing on their pitcher who happened to be the son of the guy who filmed our game.

    Legal? Maybe it was but..........

It is funny to me know looking back and remembering how mad our fans were about it but noone went over and harrassed him or anything. That could have made it even more funny. You have to tip your hat to that dad. He went out of his way to help his program and his son win a game and conference championship.
