Eagles,,,, thats my point, I remember those guys well and your right, they put up awesome numbers. I also remember Coe Brier from Rowan County who hit 22 in 1980,,,, which is still a mark unmatched by anyone in the Rowan County area. Our Jerod Faggart currently has 15 and counting.

I'm just sincerely asking a question.

We've hit 62 so far,,,,, I would simply like to know if any of the monster homerun hitters on past legion teams, had team totals over 62. Right now I have 2005 Shelby with 66 and 1999 Garner with 125.

For example,,, Coe Brier's Rowan teammates in 1980 didn't come close to 62 as a team.

The Garner Post 232 team hit 125 HR's in 1999, including 22 in the five game title series vs. Cherryville, in which Garner won 4 games to 1.

But, I think the N.C. and also National HR record for American Legion baseball still belongs to the 1998 Cherryville team led by Ralph Roberts at 127. They were National runnerups that season, so they played a lot of games and finished 41-16.

Hitbyapitch,,,,,,,,, gotta give you your props,,,, you were the first to say it.

Even if Cherryville beat you guys 127 to 125,,,, you were close enough.

I just don't remember any teams in this area hitting homeruns at the rate I've witnessed our boys doing it this summer, and wanted to know where our 62 stands alltime.

I just found the old website I made that year. Looks like the guys hit 122 instead of 125. It was an amazing summer with all of those bombs.

They weren't just lazy homeruns either. The guys could mash to tell you the truth. They hit 6 in a row one game. David Hicks (now playing minor league ball for the Blue Jays) and Bo Bridgers led the team as far as I can remember with each having around 20-22 HR's. A couple other guys nearly had 20.

here's the link to that team's website. http://www.angelfire.com/nc/post232/1999.html

i can't find any legion website with a list of records so i'm not 100% sure on what the NC or National records really are, but apparently Cherryville hit a few more in the summer of '98. Anyone around these boards know for sure?

    '99 Garner AL

Thanks for the 1999 Garner updates, JM15. I had forgotten that Lee Kimball, & David Hicks & Jamie Shearin all went to NCSU on baseball scholarships after the '99 season. I remember Hicks had some very productive years at State, but what about Kimball & Shearin? Didn't recall how they did at the college level.

Cherryville Post 100 hit seven (7) homeruns in a semi-final game against Oregon. Three players (C. Mason, D. Wise, B. Hurt) had 2 each.

Jamey Shearin was not on the 1999 Garner team. Played at NCSU for 3 seasons.

David Hicks played at NCSU 4 seasons, now with the Lansing Lugnuts.

Lee Kimball has been everywhere....NCSU, Louisburg, LCC, Wilkesboro and recently?
    maybe Montreat?

I am pretty sure Garner hit 11 at Apex, they had 6 in a row and also 3 in a row later in the game.
