Yes, you read it right, a total of 54 runs scored. I've never seen anything like it, probably as many BB as runs. Lost in the carnage was a respectable mound preformance by Aaron Corby of South, but he was about the only pitcher that could be said for. South blew an 8 run lead in the in the bottom of the 8th and went down by 6 runs. South stormed back to take a 23-22 lead in the top of the 9th. Not to be out done Mocksville tied the game at 23-23 in the bottom of the 9th. South scored 8 runs in the 10th then retired Mocksville in order to get the win. They'll do it all again tomorrow at 7:00 at South Rowan High School.

WOW !!!!!! I love this game.

Pineville 10, Kings Mt. 2 in the 5th @ South Meck and called due to rain. Don't think that the game counted as a complete game though.

rcbbfan, Who all pitched during this 31-23 game? You mentioned that Aaron Corby pitched well, but apparently he didn't pitch well for long. You also have Andrew Morgan as the winning pitcher, so what did Morgan do, pitch the last inning only? Was all these runs the result of poor pitching, errors, hits or just wet rainy playing conditions? Just curious.

Here's the link to The Salisbiry Post article:

    http://salisburypost.townnews.com/display/inn_sports/18-2South 31Mocks 23-10 inns

When I say he pitched well, I mean for the conditions. There were a total of 36 BB, 17 for South, 19 for Mocksville. South used 7 pitchers and Mocksville used 8. Corby pitched 5 1/3 innings and left the game with an 8 run lead. Morgan pitched the final 2 innings for the win. All the pitchers had trouble throwing strikes due to a wet mound or wet baseballs or both.

South had 3 errors and Mocksville had 7. South had 22 hits and 25 RBI. Mocksville had 13 hits and 22 RBI.
