In the win over South Rowan....Kannapolis may have lost a key player in Andrew Mead.It looked as though Mead fractured his left wrist in a run down after being picked off 1st base.

Asheville lost to Hendersonville in 10 innings 4-3 last night. Brian Welborn pitched 9 and 1/3 innings for Asheville giving up only 2 hits and striking out 8, but poor defense allowed 7 errors (I think) which gave Hendersonville the game. To their credit, the boys from H'ville kept it close and never gave up. Next game for Asheville post 70 is Sunday evening at Taylorsville. Asheville is now 7-4.

1st Annual Gene Benfield Memorial Tournament/ Kannapolis, NC

Final Scores from Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Sat. 6/12.....

Rowan County won the consolation game by defeating Hickory 9-3. Rowan has started their season by playing some very tough competition to a 7-7 overall record; however, Rowan will get much stronger this week with the addition of players from West Rowan.

In the tournament championship game, Kannapolis' Drew Burris turned in a great pitching performance to lead Kannapolis over Caldwell County by an 8-1 score to win the tournament championship. Kannapolis improved their overall record to 9-2 while Caldwell is still a very impressive 11-2 overall with their only losses coming to Kannapolis in 2 tournament championship games.

Good luck to each of these teams the rest of the year.
