A question has been posed about starting up a legion type softball organization. What type of response if any would be given toward this? The format could possibly be the same as legion but maybe combined areas due to the number of players aren't as great in some areas as the guys. The games could be one to two games a week or doubleheaders then the players would be game experienced practice for their travel ball tourns on the wkend if they play both. This is just an idea being thrown around to increase avenues for playing softball and increasing their skills. Now, what do you think would make this a reality or a dream.

Except for a few areas...Legion baseball is dying. I don't recommend going this route. Something you might consider is this. There are now Summer baseball HS leagues where the HS teams are staying together and playing schools around their region. It's a great way to develop the players on the same HS team.

That would possibly work out great where you take all players and play timed double headers where all the HS players get in some game time.

I think that would be great. Time games, No score and sub freely. That would enable each coach to get plenty of playing time for each player and possibly help develop pitching.

Why play if you don't keep score. Winning comes first everything else is just extra

Well, believe it or not, some of us are in this to teach the sport of softball, and, here it comes, winning isn't always the number one thing. I'd really like to add a few more comments to this, but I promised I'd be nice this year.:banginghe

I couldn't agree more, and I also am trying to learn some tact, but my tongue sure hurts from the bite marks. Only one team can win, so I guess all others should just stay home.

I have to disagree. Winning is the number one thing. A lot of other leasons to be learned in sports but the first thing you should do is play to win. Two quotes I like, the first from the late Dale Earnhart: second place is just the first loser. The other is that the guy who made the statement it's not whether you win or lose it's how you play the game. He was a perpetual loser. Play with class but play to win and when you don't win still show some class but come back the next time to win

you do realize that we're discussing the playing of hour games, free substitution, no score keeping, commonly called "training sessions"??? do you honestly feel that we have to have a winner in these situations???? i figure that the kids that learn the most are the winners!!!!

sorry. I thought we were talking about "leigon type" softball. Legion baseball plays longer games than do high school games. (9 innings instead of 7). 1 hour isn't long enough to even get in a decent practice though in my opinion. I guess I'm just old school. When I played sports we played to win. It just really frustrates me to see athletics watered down as many try to do with so many things in this era. Many don't what to traumatize their kids by having them fail at anything. I read recently wheresome people want to quit giving grades in school because it hurt the ones who didn't do as good as others. If you don't have a winner or loser in athletics it is the same thing
