Reporter, I see your point and in some aspects, I agree. Legion type softball can't compete with travel ball and neither can a "highschool summer league". travel ball is too firmly established. On our highschool team, we have girls from five different travel ball teams. I don't believe that they will give up their travel ball teams to play on a highschool league. Don't get me wrong, we play to win, but there has to be some situations, like one hour games, where we can play different players in different positions without having to worry about winning that game. In this situation, the training is more important to me than winning the "game". Not dubbing anyone here, just an opinion from an old softball coach.:twocents:

There is a High School Summer league already in motion for this summer around the Winston Salem, GSO and surounding areas. The goal of this league is to allow High School teams to play together. Several reasons for this, one being that the younger girls can grow with the experience of playing with upcoming seniors etc. Also these girls can play during the week for their respective High School teams and still compete with her travel ball or Show Case team. The individual coaches can decide on how competitve he or she will play or strickly as a learning tool. All we ask is that each school host at least 1 set of games and handle the responsibilities of the field and umpires. Then each team will rotate to the next venue. We will be having a total of 10 games each and be done by July 31. We have only 2 spots left in this league so if there are any other schools that would be interested let me know!!

I believe that I would be afraid of an injury during the week in a game that would not be as important as that showcase for the weekend would be.Of course, knowing my DD, she could get hurt with her blow dryer.LOL

    great idea!!

I think it's a great idea to have a "weeknights" league. this could include girls that travel (if they don't get enough ball on weekends), but would be especially well-suited for ages 16-18 girls that place a priority on playing HS softball (but cannot find rec ball leagues for those ages) and also don't care to get wrapped up in the cost & commitment of the travel ball craze.
It would be a way to allow these girls to stay in tune.
