Don't the Cardinal's organization do this? They are not at the level Impact is...but it took AP years to grow that, too

Braves, you are right. It does take some time and I think now is that time for softball! We just need someone with AP's drive (and attitude!) to get it started and see it through to the highest level. It's got to be about promoting the kids first and foremost, not gate receipts and tee shirt sales...

I'm a 12U coach, and dad. What I started was an order in which the player sits. That way the player knows when their time is up to sit, and it accomplishes a couple of important things. First, the player doesn't question why the coach is sitting her, and two the parent can never question me for playing daddy ball when my daughter takes her turn just like the others. There are exceptions. For example, if a pitcher is used in a game she is susposed to sit, I go to the next player on the list, and the next game the pitcher takes her turn. It works if you have the talent, and guts to stick to it. However, the girls know that if we are playing a final game for a championship - I'm playing the best at the appropriate postions. My favorite saying is "this ain't rec. ball"! Being up front with the players takes the hormones out, and the parents are more at ease with my decisions.

As far as too many teams...I think the public school talent level and instruction is so bad, that more teams will only help these young lady's learn the discipline of athletics, and in turn it will benefit our States overall talent. I had a D1 coach tell me if it wasn't for the travel ball coaches she would never find local talent in our State. I think the A & B bracket format is a great tool, and if you need A level compition it is not hard to find.

Be easy on how you Condemn daddy ball. The average player may practice or workout 3 times a week if you are lucky and the girl that wants to play because her parents wants her to play may practice or workout twice a week if you lucky. Then there are players that just do what they have to do to be a part of a team.

A Coach's daughter generally has to live Softball 7 days a week and works out on a daily bases because her dad is going to be harder on her than anyone else on the team. This does not entitle her to any extra credit toward play time but I guarantee you she will be the more prepared player. I am usually accused of mistreating my dd to play less experienced players.

As far as to many teams. I agree with the fact that there are to many want to be Coach's out there trying culminate a powerful position in the travel ball arena to draw players to their team by selling off false promises and lying of what they can personally do for their dd. Which is what destroyed a team that I once was an assistant Coach on.

I was forced to form a team to hold together a core group of girls because of people that did not have the girls best interest at hand. I have since lost some of those players who did not stand behind me when I stood behind them. We are now a solid team with committed girls who are willing to make sacrifices to make themselves better players and as always I will be standing right there behind them.

I have been in involved in girls fastpitch softball for 7 years and coached travel ball for 5 years. My goal is to give the girls that play for me the best opportunity they can possibly have to play at the College level.

For all of you out there looking for that that next "A" player to put on your team of assembled players, How about try coaching a player to the A level for a change and quit trying to prevail on another Coach's hard work!

If you are not capable of coaching and need to solicit A players don't try to start a team

    Coach Mike

Impact Baseball was started almost 10 years ago by a man named Andy Partin. "AP" was instrumental in recognizing talent in our state and promoting that talent to the coaches in the S.E.

It has evolved into a powerful organization that promotes tournaments and players. His tournaments attract the strongest field of teams across our region and many of them are Invitational only. There is not a college coach in the SE that does not attend his events. It has caused some outcries of "elitism", but it is what it is. He is adamant of ensuring only strong teams to participate in his events (makes sense to me) if he is wanting to keep his tournaments reputation with the college coaches.

I like this response. It seems the word, commitment, gets lost in translation when it comes to recruiting players.
