I agree. I saw Amanda clocked by a Bushnel at the end of June at 53. I heard that Carley had been clocked over 60 by that same gun earlier that evening.

I thought he was pretty good on height, but his zone seemed very wide to me. I'm thinking that the setup of the PR catcher was soley to enhance the view of the outside corner for the plate umpire, and I think it worked very well.

That was a very odd looking setup that the catcher had. I don't think setting up like that will work with faster pitchers.

LL Softball is a weird beast. Its rules look more like LL Baseball than ASA. I was up late too!

    Amen
    Agree with that, too.
"Spark plug" is a pretty apt description of Jennifer. First time I saw her she was teaching some rather obnoxious softball cheers to 7 and 8 year olds (or were they t-ballers?) The camera caught Dad a few times, and yes, you could see the tension. Seeing him at rec games, I could just imagine what he was going through at a game at that level.

She is a big girl. My DD is 15, 5'10" and gets sick of the tall comments directed at her.
That split looked ugly on camera. I just hope the effects were temporary.

    12U better

12U play in LL softball has been way better than the 15u.

and thats true, because the rules in their eyes, is all one thing. its taken a team of folks, with grass roots effort to change the rules, one at a time. I know it shouldnt need to be that way, but at least they are trying I would say. but your right, has LL BB stamped all over it. of course, I am here to tell you, if there was no LL BB and all its glory, this event would not be there either. sooo. take it for what it is, another avenue for girls to play, higher than rec ball, not as strong as TB, but just playing softball.

I saw this catcher set up work for them earlier in the week to. it really depends on the ump. but the ball was easily called a K, many inches off the plate. it was not realistic. that being said, I have seen the same thing watching the college world series and blew my mind.

Last year I went up to watch the Huskies play Alabama in the Super regionals, same thing. was giving bama geeez 6 to 8 inches off the plate, horrible. so I guess how do you complain about 11 12's when your top 16 college games dont even get good calls.

If recreational 15U nationally is anything like around here, most of the stonger players over 12U are too busy with school and travel ball to have time for rec. This is true to some degree with 12U, but it gets much worse after that.

Five years ago we used to have several "Belles" teams in Mauldin in the spring. In the past three years we've been able to field one. And by that I mean that last year we had one, the year before and after the 13 year olds were folded in with the 12U teams, where as they still have four 12U teams.

Having a travel ball team's players be unavailable during All Star season throws a wrench into their schedule and makes it likely that the players will be given a choice between being on the travel team and playing All Stars.

and this was causing loss of good players in LL, this is why the rule was changed. so if you look at Guru's response where he attached the rule, the last statement says : Junior, Senior League, Big League Division: Participation in other programs during the International Tournament is permitted, subject to the provisions of Regulation IV (a) Note 2. now, I dont know what regulation IV note 2 says right now, but I do know from the discussion I had with the ones involved with the rule (talked to them just yesterday at the tourney), that this 11-12, majors level, is one that this rule applies to, allowing them to play asa or nsa or whatever in between tourneys. Now, Carly was not available for a month, but that is probably because to qualify, they have gone primarily from one tourney to another with almost no break and probably some practices in between I would imagine. not really surprising.

Well, I hope she is on, and I hope they do well, it will be exciting. they should be warming up about right now, or at least stretching and using the rest room, lol. I bet the place is crammed. wish i could go.

I saw the camera on me yesterday, so although you guys didnt know, you saw me. lucky you, lol.

    Makes me CRAZY!

I cannot stand it when teams give free passes to girls stealing second with a girl on third. Just in the past half inning for both teams, there have been 5 free passes to second without so much as a pump fake or a pick off play. These free passes have resulted in 5 runs being scored.

Do something! Don't just let them walk to second base!

I agree about the free passes.
