CFBALL,Why is everyone merging? What about the girls that was once good enough to play for their teams? Those girls had dreams too. There isn't going to be that many 18 u teams around here which is going to make everybody have to travel a whole lot more. That means more money that good talented kids parents may not be able to afford to travel every weekend. The Comets travel but we keep it affordable.

dont know about Everyone else merging but for me personally, assembling the right coaching staff, quality players(without baggage) and folks just plain ole working together, is the right fit for the girls and us.

as for the Money, we have things in place so that the families arent burden with fiancical hardship provided THEY work during the offseason! its their choice.....raise it or pay it yourself. We too are affordable, if not I couldnt be involved!

It's not so much that we are merging and leaving players left behind as much as it is 2 or more organizations working together to put the players on the team that they need to be on. Practicing together, going to tournaments together. They are keeping their own identities but working together for the common good. What 18U teams have folded?

As we all said earlier in posts, the more teams, the more watered the talent. I agree all girls need a place to play and there are many teams that play right around NC that are always looking for players. The Blues had two 18U teams last summer and fall to make sure kids could play. That said, I want to address comments about going to Fla., etc. We had to go there and be successful for the D-1 NC schools to come and watch us play! UNC-CH, NC State, East Carolina, Elon, etc. really did not start to follow until we won our bracket in Plantation beating the Power Black 4-1 in our final game two years ago. Also, when the NC schools are at the ASA qualifiers and Nationals watching other teams, they see our kids play the very best and realise that some NC kids can play with anyone! I am sure Ray has had that experience and so has Enka, CF, etc. Yea it has become expensive to do select ball! Let's all bind together and convince ASA, NSA that more quality tournaments come this way, including National qualifiers, showcase events, and coaches clinics. If we do that, the cost can come down for all. If all the great coaches and organizers on this site formed a support team, heck we could get some things done and all our teams would benefit. :xyzthumbs

Rodney, Can you post an e-mail address to the local ASA director so that it might make it easier for Coaches and concerned parents to find out who that contact is? Last year we played in the ASA State and if I had not had great people around me letting me know about this I would have never known. ASA does not advertise nor do they have an easy link to find out more about up coming events. I realize too that for the top elite 14's,16's & 18's ASA is probably one of the best avenues for being seen But I also believe it starts in the 10U division...That's were this game gets started. Then when ladies get 13 to 15 years old they make that big decision to either put Boys on the back burner and play ball or find other things they believe are more important:mushy:. The girls that want to play with the elite teams will usually do whatever it takes as you well know. ASA might use NC as a tool if more of us new how to find them.. or should I say e-mail them asking for more tournaments.. Just my thoughts. Thanks
    Mike Donnelly
