Hey everybody. I want to start off by saying that I really enjoy reading this message board and it is filled with helpful information so that is why I am coming here with this question. I have a close friend that has recently signed to play D1 college baseball and last year after pitching a game early in the season, he experienced discomfort around his right shoulder blade. The next day he had a big knot from where it had swollen. This required three weeks of therapy and rest. After that he was effective pitching for the last couple weeks of the season and on through the summer and fall. This year after a couple weeks of getting back in to throwing and some long tossing, he is experiencing the same symptoms. Does anybody have any ideas on what we could do or what is causing it???? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I don't know where you are from Yardwork, but I wouldn't mess around with it.

#1. See a good Sports Medicine guy. Never trust a diag you get from a message board. If a guy tells you it's just XYZ, he's only guessing since he can't see the player.

#2. You may need a good exercise therapist to rehab his shoulder. Probably one of the top ones in the state is Alan Tyson. Here's the link to their service. They might be able to look at it and tell you who to go see for treatment and/or diagnosis. http://www.epicenterperformance.com/

Don't mess around with it. If the college had hold of him, they would be doing every diagnostic procedure in the book, making sure it wasn't anything serious. You have him do the same thing.

Did that carrying my wife over the threshold but that was so many years ago, they've probably changed the treatment. We were still using stone implements and buggy whips back then.

Sorry, I can't help, but I just could not resist

Depending on your region of the state, there are many highly qualified Sports Medicine Docs in the state. There are several prominent docs in our area of the state. One is Billy Garrett, who was the head of sports medicine at Duke and has been the team doc for Dukeand one for the US Olympic team. Another is Lyman Smith, out of Raleigh who was trained under Dr. Andrews in Alabama.

    Dr. Garrett

I can give a ringing endorsement for Dr. Garrett at Duke. He recently treated my son and is fantastic.
