    Overstreet Gets School Strikeout Record

RALEIGH, NC – Junior right-hander Jen Overstreet (Bedford, VA/Liberty) won her 20th and 21st games of the season while setting the single-season school strikeout record Saturday as the Lynchburg College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Meredith College, 4-1 and 3-0. She has 112 strikeouts on the season, breaking Carla McAlister’s record of 108 in 2001.

Overstreet allowed four hits and one walk while going the distance in the opener, striking out five. Danielle DiFranco (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) went 3-4 with two runs, and Julie Beyer (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) was 2-3 with a bases-loaded triple. Andrea Bingler (Covesville, VA/Monticello) was also 2-3.

Laura Gonder (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) provided all the offense that Overstreet would need in the nightcap, drilling a two-run home run. DiFranco and Morgan Crandall (Belfast, ME/Belfast Area) were each 2-3, while Overstreet again went the distance on the hill, throwing a seven-hit shutout with five strikeouts.

The Hornets improve to 28-8 overall – and travel to Roanoke College Monday at 6 p.m. for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference twin bill. This will decide the regular season champion.
