I had the pleasure of watching Madison Bumgarner in his 3rd start of the season yesterday It was the first time I'd seen him pitch, and I can see why observers are as high on his prospects as they are.

All of his pitches seem to have a lot of late movement, and he does a great job of varying his velocity. When he misses the zone, he consistently misses low.

While I haven't checked the box score, I know that he allowed only 1 earned run from 5 scattered hits over his 5 innings. As I left the stadium, I heard his team's radio announcer say that the earned run was his first allowed in 16 innings; giving him a .056 ERA.

The outing took place between the visiting Lake Elsinore Storm and Madison's San Jose Giants in the High-A California League. I'm especially glad to have seen him. It wouldn't surprise me if he's sent to the Giants' Connecticut-based AA team soon.
