    I agree Whole Heartedly....

There is one of the BEST ideas I have heard in a LONG time! But would the powers that be, see it that way? Because without bats, scoring runs, an eight other players, making plays for outs, a pitcher, is just standing in the middle, working her butt off for nothing!!

    not always

in '06 in our conference a SS was player of the year.

but honestly sometimes I feel that very good pitchers are somewhat taken for granted. they become expected to dominate the game, strike out most of the batters, allow only a few hits, pitch shutouts or hold teams to 1-2 runs. I think that becomes the expectation because most of the best teams normally have only 1 (or 2 maximum) outstanding pitchers, so if you are considered the ace for pitching the "big" games then you are expected to hold 'em down.

    always

You're right they are expected to hold them down and when a team puts together a couple of hits in a row ,the pitcher gets the heat from it. Look at all the past State Champs in all divs. and they have had one thing in common a very dominate pitcher.

    I'll Even Go Further !!

It was mentioned last night Arizona vs Tennessee that the sticks were pretty much even, but when you have a young woman constantly throwing two types of rise balls at 69-70 mph you are going to dominate...w/o Monica Abbott (spelling) Arizona would probably win the W.S....even though I'm pulling for Tennessee !!!!

    Dominating pitching......

I agree Guru, if Abbott was not pitching as tough last night - AZ would have won that game IMO.

    I agree with that...

I do agree with this! You are right, a lot of times the defense of a team gets used to strikeouts happening and get to daydreaming or whatever and that is when an error occurs, that decides the outcome of the game, but the pitcher is blamed for the batter hitting the ball. Isn't that why a batter holds a bat? People hit off of Monica Abbott too but that doesn't mean that she isn't a very DOMINATING pitcher! Maybe there should be a breakdown of the awards such as, Pitcher of the Year, Offensive Player of The Year, Defensive Player of The Year, All Around Player of The Year. I really don't think it would hurt to give out more awards, that way more players get recognized for their hard work and efforts.

Most College Conferences recognize both .....

a "Pitcher of the Year" and a "Player of the Year". The ACC honored VA Tech's Angela Tichner and NC State's Abby Sims.
