Windmiller and his DD and a couple of assistants put on a free clinic for the West Raleigh fastpitch association this afternoon.

It was so refreshing to see the enthusiasm of kids from around 8 to 14 learning fastpitch. There is some real raw talent in that organization. They have only been together about 3 years but you can tell they are making excellent progress. I believe this is the first year they will field a TB team.

People like Windmiller are really in a great position to promote the sport. In these tough times it is very commendable to see him doing something for the community au gratis. Some day down the line I'm sure some of those players are going to be playing at the college level.

He has a clinic scheduled at Grand Slam, Raleigh, this coming weekend I believe for those who suddenly remember that tryouts are in two weeks and they can't remember the last time they saw their bats and gloves.

Know someone else making a difference? Put it on here!!

    Willie and the Jammers

The coach of the Wake Forest Jammers 14U, Willie Santiago, is great with girls. He's not a coach who talks about playing all 11 girls and DEVELOPING them, he does it! He's no frills, no drama, BIG on drills and mechanics, and he loves girls who eat dirt. "....you can't teach desire, but you can coach it..." Right now he has a very good group of about 8 girls and needs three more. Specifically a pitcher, cather, and utility. If anyone local to Wake Forest and North Raleigh knows/has a DD sitting on the bench she is not going to get better, but she will playing for Coach Wille. He can be reached here: jammers14ucoach@gmail.com . Come to a practice or three and see for yourself. Hope to see you out there.

I would like to mention Butch Edenfield... After putting in the years at Durham Jordan and reaching retirement, he has stepped in to help Harvey Skinner coach the Northwood team. Heck! He even drives the team bus! He also continues his coaching with the NC Flames Organization where, I believe, he is very well respected.
Butch has been invaluable with my DD (and her teammates at NW) especially last year when she was a freshman on the varsity squad. His quiet confidence in her and his encouragement that she can play beyond high school has raised her to a higher level.

Butch is a great guy!! He is great with the girls, also!! One of my favorite recollections is us as opposing coaches getting ejected at the same time AFTER the game was over. Ask him about it.

I met a player from Northwood last night. Initials are LO. Hard worker, watch out--getting stronger!! For real!!
