I was shocked to watch wbtv last night and find that they did not mention 1 word about the baseball and softball championships. They do an entire hour for football and didn't even tell who won for these sports. I emailed them to tell them how dissappointed I was. Everyone else should too.

Thanks Central-D. I e-mailed Lanston Wertz of the Charlotte Observer for the same reason during the Shelby Easter Tournament. I told him I couldn't understand why they couldn't cover the South Caldwell - East Rutherford game. It was a matchup of the Observer's top 2 Sweet 16 teams and NO coverage! They put the boxscore in the paper 2 days later. If that had been the top 2 teams in football or basketball......
Wertz's lame excuse was fans of teams need to let THEM know when such games are being played. What the heck????!!!!!

I just watched eyewitness news 9 and they mentioned SC won baseball and Butler won softball and that was it. At least they mentioned it but it is still some sorry coverage. Didn't say a word about E. Rutherford and I know they are in their coverage area. You would think they would have at least a 30 minute special to report on State Championships

    It is

a sad fact that coverage of high school sports in general are very poor in some areas at best. As most stations cover a very large but limited area. Yes state championships are important, but at the high school level it is hard to sell covering these events. It is the nature of the beast. Most station set there format early. So one would have to report the results of a game to the station upon completion of that game. If that was to be state wide most areas cover three local stations, one state and an maybe another. Just using the large market numbers that would be more than 18 stations to call. Take into account the staff on duty, time of day and broadcast time. It would be hard to contact everyone across the state. Then they want a source that they know they can trust the info. Sure there is a solution calling the area station and letting them know it is important to you is a start. They look at numbers, ratings and sponsors. I would love like you to see all stations report results. I pick up a new station that reports state wise news. This is even is on a regional level. Maybe we can figure it out and get them on the same page. It is all about what most people want to know. With great respect to this forum and its members look at the threads. The 4A Championship game was discussed more than others. This is not due to lack of importance of any of these teams. But, due to the larger number of members that wanted this infomation.

Well wbtv must have got a few emails because today they lead off by telling that SC, ER won baseball championships and Butler won in softball. It was good they responded and reported that but you could tell they weren't prepaired for it it was quick and no details. Still at least they tried so for that I am greatful. High school sports in general don't get much coverage and I understand but when it comes to state championships they should have full coverage of that. Like stated if they can do an hour every week for football they could do a little for the baseball and softball finals

Agree that high school baseball gets less coverage than football. But what about all other high school sports. Fair is Fair. :bigear:

I am happy to say that WLOS did go to Raleigh and cover the East Rutherford game. They showed some highlights at 11:00 Sat. night and again at 8:00 Sunday morning broadcast.

Congratulations to the ER boys: Seth Baldwin, Zeke Blanton, Daniel Goodnight, Jarret Guffey, Michael Melton and Tyler Smith. My son has played travel ball with these boys. He has played baseball with Seth Baldwin since they could walk. These boys are a part of our baseball family and will always have a place in our hearts.

Congrats to Josh Shehan at South Caldwell.
