Braves I may open a hornets nest here but I think most will agree that there is as much politics agendas and pushy parents if not more then in any other sport. Ask about any coach in H.S. or especialy travel ball and you will hear some great war stories. But thats the adult side of it. You are right about our girls, the vast majority play for the love of the game. You see Baseball can dream of making the "show" after college if they are lucky. But our girls, at best have a shot at four more years in college after High School. then its over.

    another thing

One thing that I have seen on the High School level is the parents with the Rec. Ball mentality. Meaning that everybody should play. High School is a competitive situation. And a alot of parents have a hard time shaking that way of thinking. Or in Middle School, sometimes a parent can't understand why their daughter started, but doesn't start now in High School. It's easier to start in MS, because you're only pulling from 2 grades. But in High School, you have to compete for positions with athletes from 4 grades. But this is actually with all sports in High School. Hmm, not sure why I got off on this subject and off the main topic, sorry.

A big thumbs up to THE LENOIR NEWS TOPIC! They do a very good job of covering softball for the Caldwell County teams. Coverage is always front page news sometimes it is even the headline and many of the articles have pictures from the games. They also do a preseason profile of the county teams. They always do a great job of covering all the county sports from swimming to football.
On the down side is the Charlotte Observer and Hickory Daily Record. Never hardly anything and if there is it is a little tiny article hid in the back of the sports section. That is why i don't buy those any more. All they cover is national sports and I can get that off the TV or computer

The point made to me yesterday about AC-T was they are not a community newspaper...owned by big conglomerate....Their interests lie in the bottom line only not in the community....welcome to the big world Asheville..

    coverage with AC-T

Hey we made page 5 of the sports section...I think there are only 5 pages...no, my bad there are 8. We just couldn't compete with the guys riding their bicycles on the parkway up to mt. mitchell. They stole the headlines. Or even the street ball n-vasion tour. Oh well one maybe one day.
