We are always complaining about lack of coverage so I thought if there is something good going on we should recognize them.
The Lenoir News-Topic does an outstanding job covering all high school sports in Caldwell County. They do complete coverage and most of the time include pictures and always the local stuff is front page. This year so far is no different. One of the reporters there has sit through to miserablly cold games at S. Caldwell and wrote very good articles. If they cannot attend a game the coach anc call in the particulars and it will be in there next day. After all the negatives we hear I am glad to report a very positive media report.
For those of you not in Caldwell you can check out the articles (no pictures) online. They do hold back one days so people will still buy their paper but that is understandable. Log on and check them out other papers could learn a lot from them. Go to their web site and click on sports.

Do you think they would open a district office here in Charlotte? Or at least teach the Charlotte Observer guys how to cover our game? :banginghe :banginghe

Dawg, I have to defend my media bretheren here. When they cover softball, only a select few really care about it. In other words, if Butler and Independence play a regular season game, pretty much the parents, players, and a few students really care enough to buy a paper if they don't already to subscribe. That's around 100 extra papers between the two teams. That's not a big difference considering the high circulation of the Observer. I'm sure they want to cover your game, but I doubt they can always justify it.

You would think the paper would at least print the local college softball scores. I have never seen that, at least not in the Winston-Salem Journal. (but sure are a lot of college baseball scores)

You hit it on the head, BMAC1 !! You sell no more paper because of a D-1 baseball game, most in attendence are girlfriends and parents.:229031_ha

I was at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem today and saw a Lenoir paper in the waiting room. The local sports was outstanding. Softball game had as much coverage as Independence football received in playyoff games in the Observer. They give great coverage to all local sports.

I understand your logic But by "our game" i was refering to the many softball folks that frequent this board. not the butler indy game.
But again by your own logic take a look at how many are on this board and are looking for information on prep softball county wide and I think you can may see a flaw in your way of thinking If you take the number of high schools and multiply that by the number of players add parents and grand parents I think it is a bit over 100 people. I know that I would enjoy some details on more of the games no matter what teams. And feel that many would agree. just read some of the other posts.

    Respectfully

I quit buying the Charlotte Observer several years ago simply because they didn't cover high school sports enough. I care nothing about reading the pro and college stuff you can get all that on the tv news. The Hickory paper is about as bad as Charlotte so they get none of my money either. As stated the Lenoir News Topic does a great job with local sports. I but one every day and go straight to the sports section. They cover high school and even middle school sports in everything from football to golf and tennis.Great job by these guys on softball too.

That's not really looking deep enough into it. Aside from folks just liking to keep up with the sport, but Teams, Coaches, Players among others like to see how other programs are doing throughout the Conference, County, Region, and State. Just like Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball or ANY other sports that like to keep up with competition or POSSIBLE competition. :twocents:
