I agree that the Lenoir News Topic does a great job reporting on Caldwell Co. high school sports. I just wish they would post results from around the conferences and the teams records the same for softball and baseball as they do for football and basketball. Come on guys you do a great job this wouldn't be too difficult how 'bout it? Still they are head and shoulders above most other papers

sorry to disappoint, but the media's job is to appeal to the masses...HS softball isn't exactly going to launch a network on TV. media outlets have only so many resources (i.e. people) to cover things. I give a lot of credit to the Char Obs guys (Langston in particular) for hustling the stories they run.

I know it isn't popular, it's just the truth.

Beleive me, there is nothing wrong with being fanatical about your particular sport--thats what being a fan is all about. Just remember that media can only cover so much, and as it stands in Charlotte (TV market number 28), college and pro has priority. Right or wrong, it is what it is.

solarte1969: You are right about appealing to the masses. that is what the tv and radio are for. As for the newspaper they should cover the local sports. I dissagree on your comment about the observer. One man could do their sports section because all they do is copy what come in on the national AP wire and stick it in their paper. They could cover local highschool sports but that would mean someone there would actually have to work. I can't understand why anyone would buy the paper when all they have to do is watch the news and sports on tv to get the same story. But to each his own. I see on the 11:00 news at night what you read about the next morning in the Charlotte Observer. What I don't understand is why they wouldn't want to report on something people don't already know about or what don't get covered on the tv. i.e. High school sports

    Mass Coverage

I see as many people at High School Fastpitch games as I see on T.V. at the Bobcat games. So much for Mass coverage.:77321_bs:

total agree with your assessment Mike but college coverage in JUNE JULY and AUGUST! this area is a hotbed for softball and it only contiunes to grow!! the number of young ladies who leave HS in this area to contiune playing collegiately ranks highly and in some instances higher than their male counterparts.

check the numbers here alone at TBR wanting to hear about the scores, stats on individuals, teams from within their region, from asheville to Cape Fear and whats happening at the NCHSAA level.....this is newsworth!! NC now has a coaches association for its HS Softball coaches..finally... and thats Wonderful News.........All State selections and recognizing the outstanding young female athletes....good stuff(news worthy)
Coaches networking throughout NC/SC is now worked out, much like football and basketball, ideas exchanged, all star games showcasing the best of the best planning games, clinics etc....., statewide polls in all classications ....thats GREAT news. Alot of folks want to see Softball in the local tv news, fishwraps or wherever or till then, TBR Softball will have to do! :applause:

we truely appreciate Any coverage our young softball players recieve....SportsNite still Rocks here!!! :satana:

thanks for sharing with us Prepsters and when you get a chance....give a big shoutout to Lin Wheeler from Cape Fear HS and Monte Sherrill at Central Cabaruss for getting NCHSSCA (newly formed coaches association)off the ground....you know Alittle softball coverage at the beginning of the season :woot:

old timer who has fought hard and really appreciate all our TBR Media folks input!

    thanks guys!!!

June. July, August....well speaking from TV...this year we'll have US Open at Pinehurst, our day in day out NASCAR coverage, and in July, Panthers crank up...HS is off those months as well....I am not trying to pick a fight here, just letting folks know we can't cover everything, and HS sports are often left behind.

TV should cover those pro sports. I don't think local high school is their medium. The papers should leave that to them and cover local stuff first

    Gaston Gazette - Monday Sports

The Gaston Gazette has started inserting a section on Mondays called "Carolina Sports Weekly" instead of the usual sports page. What the? This flyer can be picked up for free at a hundred locations in the Charlotte area. Why would anyone want it delivered to their doorstep. This 20+ year subscriber was thinking about switching to the Observer...now, I think I'm ready to move to Sparta where the Alleghany News (weekly) has every HS sports story. Male & Female

IMO...the Gazette is more interested in increasing profits rather than subscriber satisfaction.

    Bravo Alleghany News... :ylsuper:

    Gazette...what can I say??? :nono:

    Idea

When we put together the coaches association, let's consider a publication like Spy Softball or USA Softball which will cover the fastpitch game in our two or three state area. I guess the majority of interest would be in NC. We have lots of talented people so we could probably pull it off. What do U think?

In my opinion, we have no better source of reporting HS softball scores than right here on TBR. If just one person from each HS team would take the responsibility of posting their teams score and stats after each game. There's a faithful few that already do this. We need someone from every team. If our field reporters will do this, then maybe................ just maybe the local papers will see the interest in fastpitch softball and start giving us coverage.
