I agree this is a great source for scores etc. Are we not trying to take it further than just scores? In business I find that competition makes everyone better and at times makes a business do something they have not done before. I am simply suggesting that if the various papers realize that a special publication has started because they were not receptive to their customers, maybe they will step it up. I think what everyone is after is to better publish our great game of fastpitch softball and created a media that helps sell the great talent pool being created in our fine state. Out of state colleges are starting to pay more attention to NC talent and if we can get the media on our side or create a media that can be assessed by college coaches and parents as well, wow! Just my thoughts and I realize everyone has opinions. :woot: :woot:

The Statesville Record & Landmark http://www.statesville.com/ is doing a good job of reporting HS softball scores in Iredell County this year. I don't think they have a reporter at every game, but if the game results are called in they will publish it.

This hits the nail on the head. I watch the ESPNs, Fox sports and other tv media for National sports coverage. Local papers priority should be local sports. And just about all the parents I come in contact with say the same thing. They would buy the paper or subscribe to it online if it were more local sports oriented. And not just football, Basketball and Baseball. A lot of High School softball teams pull in more money than Baseball.

I coach wrestling, and don't even get me started on that. But there's a couple NC wrestling webpages, and the traffic on there is unbelieveable. Until the local papers get a clue, there profits WILL be down.

Most papers will post scores...but I think there should be a designated reporter to go out to at least one key local game a weekand do a small story.

I know the Asheville Citizen-Times has been criticized quite a bit on this board, but I think they do a pretty good job of covering local sports. If coaches send the scores and stories in, they will get printed. The reporters do come out and cover quite a few of the HS softball games.
They are a little busy covering the basketball championships right now, but I have been assured the spring sports will get their coverage starting next week.

Enka did get extra coverage last year only because they were undefeated conference champs and State runners-up. If it had been any other team, I'm sure they would have had equal coverage. AC-Times does post the box scores of each game if they are called in. I think they are doing a much better job covering local sports the past year because of their new sports editor.
The last one actually told me that people did not want to read about high school sports especially girls softball-maybe that's why she was replaced.
I have sent you a PM with the name and email of the reporter that seems to do a better job of covering the high school teams.

Nice article in Charlotte Observer on Gina Allen and Central Cab. Second year in a row that CC and its players were mentioned. Would be nice if they would visit the favorites in each conference and do a small write-up on the teams. CC is the favorite to win another state title and I am sure that was the motivation for the Observer. There have been coverage in tha past at big games, Butler/CC, Myers Park /Butler, North Meck/CC, Hopewell/N Meck, CC/ Greeneville SC etc. just to name a few.
