66 - 0 bottom of two with only one out...

This is insane. They need to change the rules to address something like this. The opposing coach should also be embarrassed for racking up 66 runs. Tell your batters to swing at EVERYTHING and miss on purpose when you are up 20. I am glad to see they got him back. The official score was 9 - 0. Throw out all of those stats!

It happens close to home also!!

I recently saw an article from a NC newspaper reported a score of 59-0 in a 3 inning softball game in western NC in early April. What is the point in doing that to anyone? I know coaches sometimes hold grudges for one reason or another, but that is way beyond ridiculous by anyones standards.

I saw that too. I think the losing team was Blue Ridge and I can't remember who the winning team was. I agree, I don't care what kind of ego the coach has it is sorry by anyone's standards.

This past week there was a 27-0 game in Burke County. This is shameful. It degrades the losers and makes the winners look arrogant.

Sorry, I am laughing so hard...

These scores are exactly what I have talked about recently with our struggling JV team. JV has 1 true player on it (dropped down from V choosing to play rather than ride a bench), 3 players with some remedial skill that needs honing and the remainder of the team is a combination of "I played rec when i was 10 (and haven't been near a ballfield since) and "I don't even know what I right field is, but I am going out for the team". One young lady that has never played before is attempting to pitch (lob) a ball across the plate and one young lady (the former V player) that has only pitched for fun in the past, throws to as many as 40 batters before she gives out.

It is painful to watch these games, because, frankly, I have yet to see an opposing coach act with class when playing this team.

    Some scores from this year:

    25-0
    28-1
    23-0
    26-2

Getting the idea? And even when up 20-0 the opposing coaches are continuing to play walk ball, continuing to steal the players, continuing to rack up the runs - despite the absolute defeat showing on the players in the field.

I am unsure where the pride is in these wins. In literally humiliating the opponent?

Sometimes I think there needs to be a run rule, like in the old rec days, limiting how many an inning in these situations.

And umps - Don't even get me started on that one. A girl that is lobbing a ball across the plate at 20mph obviously is not a pitcher. You are seriously going to call a ball 2 mm above or below the normal strike zone of an ace pitcher? Make the other team hit the ball! Force the opposing coach to play ball not walk ball and force that coach to stop giving the take sign. OPEN UP THE STRIKE ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell me what you think about this...

We have been on the other end (blowing teams out) several times this year. When we know we have the game in the bag be it up 8 or 10 or just knowing that there is no chance of the other team giving us a run, we will have our girls get some live 'practice' on things they have been working on like slapping and switch hitting. We let them bat a couple times and then put in our subs so they can get some game time. This has resulted in some lopsided scores but we do NOT let the girls steal, get more than a single, and will eventually get ourselves out (jumping off the bag, swinging at everything, etc.)

What I would like to know is if the other team clearly 'practicing' against you also humiliating? That is not our intent. We are not trying to embarrass the other team when we tell our girls to switch to the other side of the plate and we do what we can to not make it obvious that we are getting ourselves out.

I have never found this practice humiliating at all. It is actually a form of mercy because your girls that are trying new things are not playing up to their normal par and when the base running allowed is limited and the ball is put in play it allows the team getting thumped themselves to get in some practice on fielding.

    Good point

I never thought of it that way. It always concerns us that the other coaches/parents might think we are being cocky or trying to embarass them when we do this.

From the other posts, it sounds like you are a good coach who cares about the game and the girls. I am sure you are doing the best you can with what you've got (I have been there many times!!!) and I bet your team is getting better every day. Keep it up!

Let me give u some insight on that game with patton.I was there and Thad was very classy and professional.7 out of the first 9 batters walk to start the game including the first 4 before the next cleared the bases with a double then 2 more walk before freedom got back to back hits. After the score got to about 11-0 Thad only allowed the players to advance one base. There was also about 5 or 6 routine fly balls that should have been outs that patton either dropped or misplayed to go with 9 walks in the inning.Every player on the team batted in the first inning.players were even batting left handed which is common in softball.Patton commited a few errors in the big first inning freedom had.I know you may say Im biased but Thad in no way would try to embarrass kids by trying to run the score up.Ashley Hasson only threw 7 pitches the entire game as well. She pitched the first inning and that was it.There was only one stolen base attempt as well in the game and that was early in the first inning before freedom even scored.
