:angelsad2:Team wearing metal cleats in ASA Carolina Diamonds Showcase. Does ASA allow this now, if so when did the rule change. Told that some ASA sanctions allow them so they are allowing(thought there was only one ASA). Am I missing something in the rulebook. Should this be allowed?

    Showcase format differs

An individual director may opt to allow what ever he wishes in a invitaional type tournament, ie, bat 11, free subs, runners, ect...ASA championship play prohibits the use of all of the above and/or metal cleats per ASA rules.
From what I gather, the main problem from a tournament director standpoint is, if you allow metal and someone gets hurt, ASA's tournament insurance will not cover you, as the director, in a liability case. That's why we, the Cardinals, nor the SC Bandits, won't allow them in our tournaments.

Metal Cleats in Diamonds Summer Sparkle Showcase

One team did show up with only metal cleats. The team manager had misread the rule book and based his decision on the 23U Open Womens rules not the JO with the exception clearly stating no metal! The team was allowed to play on Friday evening after consultation with the UIC and the opposing Team Coach. The Opposing coach wanted to play the game and excepted all responsibility for possible injury. After the game the rules where clearly explained and the team was instructed to either bring molded cleats or tennis shoes for the rest of the tournament if they wished to continue. The coach sent all players to get the proper equipment to be able to continue which they did. From this point forward it will be clearly stated in the tournament rules that METAL cleats are not allowed. And this should no longer be a problem. If at some point ASA make a rule change on this topic then we would certainly follow the rules as written.:4:
